I don't know anyone that became a fan of boxing because of Floyd Mayweather. There are so many African-Americans who have experienced great success in boxing. Sure you have nuthuggers who have latched onto Floyd, but he isn't the reason they are watching boxing currently nor is he the reason they started watching boxing.
With the vast majority of Pacquiao diehards, he is the reason they are fans of boxing. He is the reason they are currently watching boxing and he is the reason they started watching boxing.
Personally I feel the vast majority of Pacquiao fans HAVEN'T seen him lose in real time. I draw this conclusion by join dates on the various boxing blogs and the sheer volume increase of Pacquiao fans posting on boxing related sites over the past 3 or so years. It doesn't mean he was absent of a fanbase prior to 2006 or so, but a large number of Pacquiao diehards have not seen Pacquiao lose.
Based on those things, I feel that a loss by either fighter would be a painful blow to each respective "sides" ego. However, I feel the Pacquiao fanbase would essentially be a nation in mourning and take it much much harder.
