Does anyone really believe Cotto ever had a chance against either FMJ or Manny?

Whether or not people care is another story, but you also can't go around saying Floyd "would've" done this and that to Cotto because inevitably, he didn't prove it in the ring.
^^^ALL that. I've always admired Cotto, I've never heard him make excuses, basically fought everybody at welter except Floyd and Williams, and only one of those guys appeared eager to fight. How much did Margarito take outta Cotto, I dunno, only Cotto does. Cotto was a very solid, really good boxer/puncher. Stylistically, unless you really overwhelmed him, perhaps with bricks in your hands and even then, he'd still give you a run for your money. It's hard to imagine a guy like that not being competitive against either or, under the "ideal" conditions.

      but that's not the point.

cotto was a top welterweight when he fought pacquiao and when floyd was the champion at welterweight.

whether he had a chance or not is not the point.

he was a top welterweight and deserved a fight with either.
