Does anyone really believe Cotto ever had a chance against either FMJ or Manny?

I just feel like the air needs to be cleared on this one. I think that anyone who believes Cotto is in the same league with may or Pac needs to put the pipe down for a second. Anyone agree or disagree?

I think pre-Margarito it would have at least been competitive for however long it would have beeen worth the scrap!

Beat, maybe not but Cotto (Pre-Marg) would cause anybody who's not a pressure fighter problems, that includes Floyd.

I think it's better to say Floyd beat him than to say "He could've or would've". The history books don't have a section for "If". Cotto will be remembered as one of the top fighters during this era and Mayweather can't claim a win over him. Whether or not people care is another story, but you also can't go around saying Floyd "would've" done this and that to Cotto because inevitably, he didn't prove it in the ring.

At 147 with no catch weight before Cotto was too big for 147 I think you are right. In ideal conditions he would have been a good challenge for either guy. More of a challenge for Pac in his prime because of styles, but I still think he would have been soundly defeated. There is basically no reason for anyone to say that Mayweather "ducked" Cotto, as if he were really scared or something.

Alright it sounds like everyone is in agreement on this one. Hopefully we won't hear any more about how Floyd was scared of Cotto and other BS like that.

I still think he would have been inevitably defeated however if the version of Cotto who showed up that fought Shane things would have looked a lot more interesting in fights with Manny/Floyd!

cotto had a chance against mayweather a few years ago but i would still have picked mayweather. when he fought pac it was a 50/50 fight going in imo.

That fight was not 50/50. Cotto was underweight and wasn't the same after the Margarito fight. The fact that Cotto went up to 154 after the Pac fight is telling.
