I think it is a little silly to assume that a fighter as inexperienced and incomplete as Ortiz could manhandle Floyd. This is not even a nut-hugging thing, this is just business. Ortiz knows he can't box Floyd, he will have to apply pressure, and Floyd is deceptively skilled on the inside. Ortiz has to out-think Floyd and that is simply not going to happen. Floyd is thinking in angles and patterns, Ortiz is living on a freaking prayer. No way in hell Ortiz can box Floyd, and he is falling into that same trap Floyd lays for everyone, the doors open, come right on in. In all honesty, Ortiz had no ****ing idea how badly Floyd is going to handle his ass on the inside. Ortiz is an average in-fighter at best.

This is business. Ortiz was scouted, battle plans are drawn out, Floyd is simply going to execute a game plan and walk away with a decent payday, half of which he had better use to pay down some of those back taxes.

garcia is right, mayweather style is good for ortiz cause mayweather doesn't have a big punch and is rarely a finisher.

Ortiz definitely has to go out on Mayweather
like he did against Berto for his best chance at winning.

be to out box him = Impossible.

His best chances at Mayweather is EXTREME PRESSURE.
He has to rought up Mayweather. REALLY be forceful with
him. He has to stay on him and throw powerful punches.
He has to hope for a knockout.

IF he wants to win by points he better land strong punches
and hope to intimidate Mayweather and kill is offense with his
very own offense. Impose his large size.

HE CANNOT LET HIM BREATHE.

Most importantly, he cannot tire out. He better be ready
to throw punches like crazy for 12 rounds. IF he tires out
Mayweather will pick him apart easily.

That to me is how Ortiz stands his best chance.

With all this said, I hope Mayweather takes the win
and hope he can handle Ortiz's pressure and power.

By the way, I do not believe Berto is a same fighters as
Alexander.

Berto actually has POWER. If it would of been Ortiz
vs Alexander, the way Ortiz came out, Alexander would
of not been able to throw ANY punch to hurt Victor.

Watch Alexander vs Mattysse. Did those punches look
like they hurt Lucas?

I agree, extreme pressure is the key.

Reckless agression is Ortiz' only chance but reckless agression is suicide against Floyd. Floyd aint no Berto unfortunately Ortiz will find out the hard way.

Smart aggression, and relentless pressure, will be the key, so an authorative jab will be sorely missed.

What you guys are forgetting is that Marquez and Mosley are two older guys, Ortiz is not. With these long layoffs, Mayweather is playing with fire and his legs can get old overnight, especially if he is pressured by a high energy rate from Ortiz. It is not far-fetched that Mayweather could look his age and Ortiz is not the fighter you want to loose a step or two against.

Ortiz sleep walked against Peterson, he was on fire for Berto. HUGE difference. Anyone who thinks this will be a cakewalk all the way for Mayweather is fooling themselves. Mayweather has fought older fighters the last few fights, Ortiz is young and powerful. He will hurt and drop Mayweather and win some rounds if nothing more.

I agree, you cannot compare the 140lb Ortiz with the fighter who beat Berto.

Ortiz is CLEARLY a much better fighter at welter.

Guys who think that fighting at the correct weight makes no difference, and that all you gotta do is "train hard", and have "heart"..... are being more than a little naive.

Fighting at your best weight is by far the most significant adjustment that any fighter could possibly make.

In assessing Ortiz, if Roger were to review one of Ortiz' prior fights, which one would it be?..... an older fight against Peterson back when Ortiz was killing himself to make weight, or his last fight in his natural weight class?

Garcia has a good plan for Oriz. But its only half of a plan. I do aggree with some that say Ortiz has to box. Floyd is said to have such a great jab, which its good but not consistant which is the major difference. And Marquez and Hatton showed that Mayweather can be countered and bullied into the ropes, we know Castillo beat Mayweather but i'd have to see the Castillo fight again to comment further.

One major way that Ortiz will have to prepare for is for Mayweather to be a DIRTY Fighter, as he was against Ricky Hatton. And this time i want to see Ortiz retaliate with dirty tactics, something Hatton refused to do for some weird reason.

Another thing is Ortiz doe not have to always pressure Mayweather. Besides pressuring Floyd, Ortiz has to make sure Floyd isn't just on defence trying to avoid or block most of Ortiz punchs. When Floyd is doing this after 3 punchs have not landed by Ortiz then Ortiz needs to back off with the jab. Then step back allow Floyd to come forward, intice him to punch, counter, then counter Floyd right back.

Marquez used simple feints, but very calculated that got Floyd thinking twice before he came in on Marquez. And when Floyd tryed to bring an onslaught he was sloppy. So this is when Ortiz can counter and go in full force with Floyd.

I still don't understand why Floyds opponets of past have not targeted Floyds shoulder, bi-ceps, tri-ceps, when he is on the defence. He leaves these spots open to be hit. And older boxing fans will remember older fighters used to use this tactic, more popular for this is the great Rocky Marciano and Muhammed Ali.

Why is this fight going to be good?

1. Floyd has slowed down.

2. Ortiz is young.

3. Ortiz is coming off a very tough fight (its not the norm to take a tough fight after being in a tough fight back to back, but to be honest thats been the norm in a few years now, because the promoter or manager is trying to get rich and not the best interest in his fighter).

Floyd attended the Ortiz/Berto fight and saw that nobody was paying him no attention. People want to see fighters fight. Floyd now wants to fight Ortiz, so he can possibly sell tickets, because Ortiz is exciting, not Floyd. I hope that Ortiz whoops his ass bad. If Ortiz pressures him consistantly, it's over.

And because of the reasons I think Ortiz is a threat, Ithat is why I am impressed Mayweather picked Ortiz. He could have picked someone easier to pick up a title or a win against. The one thing that always impressed me was how Mayweather after a long layoff DOES NOT fight tune-ups!

I don't think it's hard to believe

Why is it so hard to believe that ortiz will hurt mayweather even when mayweather is blocking his shots. **** ortiz knocked peterson down punching him in his arm guard. Ortiz will be aiming for mayweathers upper body and do some damage. I didn't like this fight for floyd when it was announced.

I also think that Ortiz has a great chance of beating Floyd. Mentally and physically, Ortiz is in his prime. People are under-estimating Ortiz' ability as well. He wasn't being touted as the next superstar by Oscar for nothing.

I hope that Ortiz takes Floyd's zero loss record, so that Floyd can come down to earth and become a real fighter again. Sometimes a loss has the effect of rejuvenation - like it did to Ortiz.
