Anderson doesn't just get $200,000, he gets a percentage of the pay per view as well. Also Lesnar gets over a million per fight. Some of the very elite MMA fighters get over a million per fight.

I dont understand how Cotto makes 1 million dollar against Mayorga, with if i remmeber correctly 250k buys PPV.

But against Margarito this december, he will make an estimate of 5 mil, with Margarito also making around 4 mil or so. While this PPV will probably estimate at around 400k buys.

The numbers just doesnt add up.

And why is Brandon Rios getting so little aginst Acosta?

El Gato once told me that he got offer about 10k to fight someone but he had to pay trainer, taxes, and some other stuff, he was going to take home abou 3k.

*The amounts might be a little off but not by much*

When everything is taken into consideration, these poor guys (I mean that literally and figuratively) don't make squat off of boxing. They've gotta give a cut of that purse to their trainer, manager (if they have one), cut-man, the tax man, etc. If fans understood this better, many wouldn't complain so much about the moves fighters make to get better paydays. Unless a man has major talent, he's gotta be crazy in love with the sport, or just plain crazy to be a boxer.

If the posted figures are anywhere near correct, Lesnar could do professional wrestling for a couple of years and get paid more than he ever would in a whole career in UFC. Maybe Brock's plan is to move over to wrestling once his UFC days are over. Who knows?

The vast majority of people on the planet are stuck in a livelihood they don't like, or even hate, because they can't survive doing what they love. If you're one of the lucky few that makes a decent living doing what you love, good for you. The reality is very different for nearly everyone else.

Manny started his career for the same reasons everyone else did, maybe more so. How many Pacquiaos or Mayweathers are there? Now that Manny has more money than he could ever spend, he sticks around for other reasons: legacy, fame, social import, etc. 99% of the fighters on earth will have to give up the sport they love because they can't support themselves, much less a family, on it. So, in the end...yes, it is about the money.
