Good news for us fans!!
According to an article in The Daily Telegraph, Sky Box Office are unlikely to show any pay-per-view boxing until at least 2013, if ever, after bad publicity surrounding the Amir Khan v Paul McCloskey fight and David Haye’s poor outings in his last two fights.
Charging people £14.95 for the Haye v Harrison fight was the first adverse publicity gained by Sky, who took flak for the having the bout on PPV in the first place even though it was a world title fight. European champion Harrison's profile wasn't seen as high enough to warrant a pay-per-view status by the fans, then the unsatisfactory first two rounds and subsequent predicted finish meant the bout brewed negativity with the masses.
There was then the Haye v Klitschko bout, which is now renowned for Haye’s remarks about hospitalisation and the infamous ‘toe’ incident. All of which have tainted the reputation of Sky Box Office and it may now be a long time before another boxing event makes it to the PPV channel.
Even though Britain currently has four world title holders in Amir Khan, Carl Froch, Ricky Burns and Nathan Cleverly, Amir Khan remains the only fighter that can command a pay-per-view audience. The WBA light-welterweight champion looks likely to remain with Primetime as he seeks to become a HBO PPV fighter with a win over IBF belt holder Zab Judah tomorrow night.
