The independent investigation by Gatti's family said it was "inconclusive" so I will just go with that and say "I don't know".
Some people just wouldn't want to think that Gatti would commit suicide, but we don't really know much about his mental state and if he was depressed. The NFL has had those recent cases of suicides of former players who had concussions/brain trauma. Plus Gatti had alcohol problems. Depression + alcohol abuse is a terrible mix.
There was just things that were so shady about the situation. Didn't Gatti re-do the prenuptial agreement and Gatti's wife was supposed to get a lot of money if Gatti died from a life insurance policy? Plus, I remember hearing reports that said the purse strap was unlikely to hold someone of Gatti's weight.
Maybe it wasn't her that did the actual hands-on murder, but an accomplice of her?
I think that Gatti committed suicide. I wouldn't completely rule out he was murdered and his wife was behind it because the insurance policy switcharoo definitely sends a red flag, but i don't know the exact details. . .
but my gut tells me that Gatti was in a dark place, and had been there for a while. . . almost all the time our toughest battles we fight with ourselves. . . RIP Gatti, vaya con dios.
btw... I think he was murdered. I couldn't hang myself with a purse strap if I tried, but if I was drunk and someone was pulling a purse strap around my neck I'm sure I would go.
