Who is the best trainer in the world?

Robert Garcia was just crowned the trainer of the year for 2011 and it's well deserved but who do you think is the best trainer?

I think a great trainer needs to have a few characteristics:

    1. Technically sound. Know his boxing obviously.

    2. Teaching ability. There's many trainers that know their stuff but don't have the ability to convey that info to their fighters, patience plays a big part.

    3. Motivator. Be able to push a fighter to his limits and bring the best out in him.

    4. Scout. Be able to scout your opponent and implement a game plan to beat him.

    5. Protector. Some of you may think nothing of this one but IMO it could be the most important. Be able to care about your fighters and look out for them knowing what fights to take and which ones to pass up on. That can make or break a young fighters career.

    So who is the best?

    A. Robert Garcia (over 8 world champs from scratch)
    B. Freddy Roach (4 time trainer of the year)
    C. Nacho Beristain (15 world champs trained and HOF member)
    D. Emanuel Steward (HOF member and Hearns trainer)
    E. Ronnie Shields (TOY 2003 worked with Juan Diaz and Vernon forest)
    F. Roger Mayweather (trains Floyd Jr)
    G. Floyd Sr. (Started with Floyd Jr and trained Oscar)

You don't mold a fighter to make him what you want him to be. You bring the best qualities out in him and hide his weaknesses.

Emmanuel Stewart does all the time; trainers like certain style of fighters.

What he does is different. He takes on fighters that take his style well. He isn't going to take Klitchko for example and make him an inside fighter or take Cotto and teach him something completely different to his style.

Steward is good at outside boxing, controlling with the jab and motivation.
