Now this is almost a no win situation for Castillo because if he wins now everybody rooting for Corrales will blame the extra three pounds.

Why do some of you keep talking like Castillo coming in heavy is an advantage for him?

He was probably running in the Sauna for hours today.

That's not a positive thing at all.

If anything he's going to physically drained as a result of all that physical activity 30 hours before going into a war.

        important update-

Corrales' promoter Gary Shaw and Castillo's promoter Bob Arum have tentatively agreed to allow the fight to go ahead at a catch weight 147 lbs and the Castillo camp has agreed to be fined $75,000 per pound for every pound he is over 147. There is a major snag, however. Arum wants the weigh-in at 3PM, Shaw insists having it at 5PM. Arum finally exploded and stated rather colorfully that if the weigh-in is not at 3PM then the fight is off. Castillo's manager Fernando Beltran stated that Castillo is embarrased about the incident on the scale and wants to apologize to everyone. Beltran added that he will not jeopardize his fighter's health and the fight will not go on if the 3PM weigh-in is not agreed to. Negotiations are continuing...

my guess is its 147 with that weight just being a "limit" weight meaning they won't have to work as hard to maintain a weight under 147 over the next few hours. it could be a typo tho.

              That makes more sense,

but if these two guys are figthing at the Welter weight limit, doesn't it seem like a bit of a farce now?

              This is bad on Castillo.

They had weeks to prepare for this, if he was having trouble they should have said something earlier.

Good god, just how much weight is Castillo planning to add?

He's having difficulty making 147 by 3pm tomorrow?

Oh yeah, so regardless of the weight agreed-upon, it's definitely a non-title fight since Castillo couldn't make the 135 limit?

i think Beltran's problem is that he doesn't want Castillo weight in jeopardy that close to the fight. I think he'd rather have it at 3pm for health concerns, which makes sense.

But to answer your second question, yes, it's now finalized as a non-title fight.

Hopefully, this whole situation will help raise questions as to how the boxing community can better handle weight situations in the future. But the bottomline is you need to be better prepared coming into such a big fight like this one.
