I feel PPV have got a bum rap, it is not the ideal way to create a large viewing audience but it is a good way to make fights happen that would otherwise be tough to make, I would rather a fight be on PPV and happen rather than languish on the burner because it is impossible to make in a timely fashion.

Plus it lets the audience really show how big a star someone is, if a guy is demanding a lot put him on PPV and see if they can sell, it is the ultimate sink or swim test in regards if a guy is a true star or not and if their demands are worth meeting.
I think the PPV has been a crutch for those promoters who set fighter's bars too high with their minimums

I realize that this a way for boxing to be shown without clogging it up on regular subscription but I think if I am HBO I want to be selective as to what I put on PPV

for example if GBP wants Hopkins to fight then either HBO sets the bar as to "hey we will offer this and you provide YOUR fighter with the rest" or "hey if you need this on PPV then do what Bob does and have your own show"

I think it forces the promoters to lower their minimums or be creative in how they provide their elite with the money they're promised

If this is true then the writing is on the wall that TR is going to stick with Showtime. Which will leave HBO with GBP and Al Haymon's scraps. Hopefully HBO realizes they need to ditch the latter before they flush all of their budget down the drain.
Not only ditch Haymon (whom I think is ***ish also) but the open cheque deal to Oscar some years ago was the beginning of resentment which accumulated between all the other promoters and HBO, even whilst at the same time they were trying to get their fighters on a HBO show.

I agree with you completely, and it wasn't only trying to get "quality fights" within budget, but that the supposed quality fights very often turned out to be "stinkers" that, considering the styles and past fights of the fighters, should have been OBVIOUS to Greenburg and his colleague(whose name I forget for the moment) and that the ******* budgets were being frittered away by incompetence. I was surprised how, failure after failure, he was still there.

Maybe a contract stipuation of some sort, which kept him there.

Wondering if the Williams-Lara fallout was the straw that broke the camel's back for Greenburg???

Boxing dies completely the day that the best stop fighting the best.

We need clarity, one sanctioning body, and less in-house rubbish.

I do agree with you that the best fighting the best does not always make the best fight, but it is vital for the integrity of boxing. We can still have good match-ups.
I actually agree with him on #6, it's the matchmaker who can make or break the "possibility" (I don't say "probability" because there are no guarantees in boxing) of a good fight occurring.

That's why Ward-Gatti 1 was such a fan friendly fight. {Those expecting a continuation in their next 2 fights were dispapointed because Gatti changed his style which a matchmaker could not be expected to know}. Also the Morales Barrera series. Also going back a few years, Gaspar ortega against anyone, Zarate and Zamora. Etc.etc.

Everything started when he turned down a couple of Cotto fights and gave the Cotto date to Martinez. After that Arum was an Angry angry ***.
Why not complete your brilliant peroration by adding that "and also Greenburg was a ****** ****** ***". They might also both be human beings despite being ***s.

It astonishes me, and many others I'm sure, how often the topic changes from boxing to ***s. We must be trying to emulate the United Nations Organization, where of every 100 resolutions which are passed, 67 are about ***s and Israel. The rest of the world where the REAL problems are, seem to be mostly ignored......

                      I wonder why......?
