You guys are totally wrong!

Margarito demanded for a fight but never got it .... Floyd avoided that fight .... FACT!

Cotto was still green at 140lbs and that is when Floyd wanted Cotto but later Floyd hid behind his retirement once he saw that there were a lot of big fighters at 147lbs ... maybe it was coincidence .... but after Floyd has consistently continued to avoid these type of fights that could improve his legacy, how can you call your statements FACTS? Floyd in the Costas and other interviews re-affirmed what I stated.

After knowing about Margarito cheating, Floyd said in an interview a while back that he knew that that there was something wrong about Margarito and that is why he avoided that fight ... without saying the word, Floyd admitted that he ducked Margarito.

Again, your statements are flawed for the simple reason that Floyd wanted to fight a green Cotto so those comments of yours that "Cotto never fought a champ so he didn't deserve a fight until now with Floyd" are wrong!

Plus you don't need to be the champ to deserve a fight .... at least its not been the only criteria for a fight .....

Ahem ... Floyd has done something that NO ONE YOU ARE A FAN OF has done:

He's fought the #1 and #2 in every division he's competed in. Kostya Tszyu is the ONLY champion Floyd did not fight because Tszyu adamantly demanded a 60/40 split.

Who else has done this?

Fight the #1 and #2 is the ONLY measure of a champion. You don't get to decide who the real threat was or is. Rank determines that.

This whole thread only exists because Cotto fans are busy combing the desert .. looking for genie lamps .. so that they can wish for Cotto to have been a better fighter. Talk about fantasy.

If Cotto fans want Mayweather to have fought Miguel earlier, then get a time machine and:

1 - Make sure that Cotto doesn't refuse offers for a fight against Floyd.

-and-

2 - Make sure Cotto stays relevant more than 8 months. After that loss to Margarito, Miguel hadn't won anything significant until Foreman.

That's a couple of weeks away from being a FULL 2 YEARS!!!

its a lost cause with these guys. They don't deal with facts. All these are facts. They are bringing their emotions into the debate. Fact is that Cotto never beat a TITLE HOLDER until he fought Yuri Foreman No matter how they slice it, its truth.

Also when Mayweather fought Corrales it was 6th defense of the WBC Super Featherweight Title. Corrales was undefeated and on the p4p list

That's like asking if any version of Tyson beats Lennox. I say yes, others would say no way and that Tyson was exposed by Douglas.

I honestly don't know how good Cotto might have become if he hadn't been beat down by bricks in the first Margarito fight. He was never the same fighter after that mentally and that was his biggest edge prior. That kind of robocop quality was what made him interesting and he seemed to keep getting better.

Had we seen a version that could beat Mayweather? No

But there was the promise that he might develop into a Duran type of fighter that could have provided a serious challenge.

I think that is in fact what this fight is about. The idea that Cotto can deliver that one performance on one night that pushes Floyd. That's the intrigue, that we might see some of that promise.

And if not at least the guy got a nice paycheck for his trouble.
