What dis Floyd do, he cherry picked a 140 pounder(Hatton).
You clearly don't watch or follow boxing.

The only division that Floyd didn't fight the recognized champion was jrWW and that was because Kostya Tszyu had demanded a 60/40 split. Tszyu wouldn't budge so Mayweather had to move forward and fight Gatti while Tszyu wound up fighting the up and coming Hatton.

Mayweather moved up to WW and Hatton decided to chase the money. Mayweather wanted to beat the man who had beaten Kostya Tszyu. It was the closest he'd get as Tszyu retired right after his loss to Hatton.

That was the significance of that fight. That was the intrigue that it held at the time. Cotto didn't even have any big wins at 140lbs. Cotto's biggest win came over a close match with Mosley that many felt should have gone the other way.

Cotto, with one noteworthy win in his entire career, was in no position to demand anything. Remember, questions were being asked about Mosley's viability as a top contender at that point as he was coming off losses.

It wasn't until Mosley knocked Margarito out that he regained prominence in the sport. So while Cotto's win did raise his standing by finally giving him victory over a noteworthy name, Mosley was mostly name at that point as he was only fight guys like Vargas and Collazo at that point.

When you put things into perspective, **** makes a lot more sense.

cotto and margarito are 2 he should have fought. i have never rated williams and this most feared fighter **** was a load of bollocks! the geezer is a skinny twig and would get snapped in half. i dont think cotto would of stood much of a chance, everything cotto does, mayweather does better. margarito would have stood the best chance with his size and pressure fighting imo.

Cotto was at the top of his career after the Mosley win. People knew he was the man at 147 and Floyd wanted none of it. At the time the only fighter who people thought could beat Cotto was Mayweather and even then it was fairly even when the polls went up on who people thought would win.

I personally don't think Cotto would have beaten Mayweather but that was the fight everyone wanted to see. Floyd should have fought both Cotto and Margo but instead ended up with one of the worst Welterweight resumes of all time. The only top Welterweight he can claim to facing is Shane Mosley.

            Reality:

Floyd made the fight game into some soap opera type ghay shish.

"Call me out for 3 years and I'll retire and play lady games in man's sport" ~FM

Bottomline: How the phuck can you fight garbage fights like Gatti and Baldomir and act like "Cotto ain't do nuffin to deserve a fight?"

Any champ worth his glittery/ghay boxing shorts, will give the fans the fights they want. At one time the world was calling for Cotto V Mayweather.

*****s, shut the phuck up already... You sound like you're OK with this girly shyt: "Call me out!" "I like to hear my name on HBO when I am hiding in my retirement home with Ellerbe !"

Cotto has always been slightly overrated. But even to this day, he's still virtually an undefeated boxer. His fights against Edward BricksRhands and Congressman Juiceiao should be ruled no contest.

I truly believe Floyd would have won a unanimous decision win back then but that's fantasy.. Just like this topic.. Fantasy..

Fact of the matter is Cotto's resume at 147 is way better than that of Floyd's.. Win Lose or draw.. It can't be argued.. History will always remember that Cotto fought the best in his division regardless win or lose..

History will remember Mayweather as the best talent that never fought the best in his division.. I still believe he has time to do that and taking on Ortiz is definitely a step in the right direction.. Let's just hope that for the fans sake that he doesn't waste the back end of his career not fighting the best as he should.. It always comes back to the old saying....

"To be the best you have to beat the best."

Floyd has not beat the best opponents out there for him.. Hopefully with the time he has left he will...
