Anyone Else Think Rios Is A Bit Chinny To Be A Brawler?

Reminds me of Carl Froch. Froch began to realize he couldn't take it as well as was hyped and started taking less shots just because. I think the chin of Rios is overrated. He gets hurt more than commentary mentions. At least he looked pretty wobbly against Antillion to me. He might be in trouble against people with power or sneaky counters and not even really be aware of it. Seems like a guy that will fight a Matthysse or Khan and get blasted out before he has time to realize it.

He could also be weight drained - though that only seems to be an excuse for notoriously chinny guys like Khan at 135, Cotto at 140, or Haye at Cruiserweight. Can't say I've seen a guy be weight drained and his chin go from pretty good to iron - just glass to pretty good.

he has a great chin only time i have seen him hurt was when acosta a great puncher caught him. But he is a ko waiting to happen with his style not right now though maybe later on in his career.

he takes the punches pretty well, and comes back with his own..i agree, i saw him briefly hurt when he fought acosta, but rios has looked drained lately..regardless, it is good to see an exciting fighter making some good fights.

Silly title aside, threadstarter has something of a point, even if I don't see Rios just being blasted out by anyone at 140lb.

Any good chin can be overrated, simply because no man is unknockoutable, yet many men whose chins hold up to stern test over a period of time will gain that rep, until their beards inevitably crack (if not defended adequately).

It was true of Tony, it's true of Froch, it's becoming true of Rios - people think these guys' respective abilities to take shots are more superhuman than they actually are.

Thank goodness, Froch has come to protect his beard more as his run of title-fights has progressed.

Acosta and Antillion are feather fisted now?

                Rios chinny?

That's like Arum saying Rios can match Pac's speed.

I think the way to go on Rios is to the body. Acosta had him hurt, and so did Antillon. If a fighter had enough power and speed (or a hell of a chin) and went to the body well, Rios could be seriously challenged.

Were it not for the Pacquiao fight, I think Marquez needs to step up and take on Rois to continue his place at the top of the 135 mountain. After all, Marquez has only defended against Diaz (x2) and Katsidis. Rios would be a formidable challenge.
