I didn't watch the fight yesterday, i just finished watching it right now. I normally don't watch fights with the intention of scoring when I first watch it, normally I will do that when I watch it over. However, with the outrage on this board last night, I scored the fight on the first watch. Anyways, here is how I have it.
    Lara: 1, 2, 3, 6, 10
    total: 113

    Williams: 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12
    total: 115

Lara clearly won the first 3 rounds. Then after that his work rate completely dropped off. Paul williams came back to win the next two but then Lara returned to 1st round form in the 6th. After that Paul Williams returned the fight to a clear 4-4 match.

At that point I really started looking close. I was saying "why the **** isn't Lara doing anything. I can't score for him if he doesn't do anything." he would land two or three good punches, one big one that didn't hurt paul too much. Then he would start hugging, grabbing paul's head, leaning into him, all kinds of lazy shyt. While Paul would stay active on the outside or inside, regardless, he kept throwing punches. Many of them weren't effective but when scoring the round, Lara would land two punches, disappear for 2 minutes and then try to fight but grazing punches.

Then it got to the point where I had Paul 5-4, then Lara dropped another left that froze Paul in the 10th. That round had little action but the punch froze Paul's body up so Lara got that round. Then Lara did jack **** besides run around the ring and miss punches here and there, while Paul started ripping the jab and sticking him deathly. No power shots but the jab found a home almost every time. Then the final round, Lara just didn't do enough. He looked like he wanted to do stuff but hardly did anything, i guess not wanting to risk it. Where as Paul was still ready to throw down even with his pants on the ground. So, I gave Paul the 12th based on ring generalship. Hardly any punches landed that round but Paul obviously controlled that round.

I also found the commentators eating Lara strudel by the gallon, ******ing over a left hand that would make a sound. Lara landed some really good overhand lefts that warranted good points but a lot of them hit Paul's shoulder or inside glove. While the commentators saw it as if Paul was getting hit flush by a shot that made a lot of sound.

Lara just didn't do enough to win. He was just in the fight, not trying to win the fight.

Paul really did win the fight. It wasn't pretty. He won it ugly style, Froch style but he did what it took to win the fight.
    Never watch boxing again!!

If a judge in a Professional boxing match scores a round/fight to a fighter who throws the most punches without landing them, over a fighter that throws less punches and is more accurate - he shouldn't be a PROFESSIONAL boxing judge. Just think what Floyd Mayweathers record would be now if all judges did that. SMH @ people/judges who think throwing a bunch of punches (activity), whether they land or not, is what wins a fight.

FIGHTER A: "I threw the most punches, I win!"

FIGHTER B: "Yea but you didn't hit me"

FIGHTER A: "Oh well, sucks being you."

workrate isn't a scoring criteria. judges should probably read the rules but they don't. workrate doesn't fall under clean punching unless you are landing but williams wasn't. obviously it doesn't fall under defense. it's called effective aggression not just aggression. it has nothing to do with the amount of punches thrown. williams work rate didn't make him the ring general because he kept walking into punches the entire fight. what kind of general just marches forward getting killed? not a very good one.

How is a judge selected or certified?

              • You are incorrect Flick, no way Paul could have won more than 4 rounds maybe he could have only won 2.

I am a guy who thought he would win and wanted him to win but he just didn't and got a huge gift, Lara really chopped him up with those lefts.

                  • I and a lot of people thought the fight should have been stopped in the 11th round. Don't know Paul won that fight.
