how are they certified? i'm guessing if they have a pulse that's good enough. most judges are connected people who worked in the boxing industry and then they become judges so they can rig it more effectively. kinda like how people in congress rig the laws for corporations then after their term is up they become lobbyists for those same corporations. i do you a favor and you do me a favor type deal.

how are they selected? the promoters and commisions know which judges are yes men and will score the fight for their guy so they make sure they get selected to judge their fights. this is why you always see the same judges over and over again. they get rewarded for screwing up with more assignments.

    • I feel ya TS, I blame the sport as a whole for this.

HBO plays boxing politics too much. Depending on who they favor is what determines who wins in fights that go to the cards when their guy loses a fixable bout.

Is it activity or effective punching that gets the nod? Because it seems when it comes to pushing their donned network guys HBO can't make up their mind how they play judging politics, so there must be an agenda.

When Cory Spinks outworked Jermain Taylor.. they gave the fight to Taylor.

When Winky Wright effectively punched BUT was outworked out the kazoo by Sam Soliman (homeboy through over 1000 punches in that fight)... They gave it to Wink.

When Calzaghe outhustled B-Hop and barely managed to land a significant punch to Ex's clean punching.. they gave it to Joe.

      etc. etc.

Hard to blame you looking at this the way you did, when there's no consistency in the sport on which form of attack elects a winner to begin with.

look at harold lederman's scorecards. is there a more confused human on planet earth? he will score williams-quintana to williams but lara-williams to lara. he will score calzaghe-hopkins to calzaghe but mayweather-delahoya to mayweather. he will say "Jim he's just outworking the guy" but then in another fight he will say "Jim he's just landing the harder punches"

        • And I'm kind of surprised HBO didn't immediately try to job Williams after he came out publicly about retiring. I guess they really wanted to build Paul back up to that rubbermatch.

          • Try watching it on mute and it's a closer fight than it seemed live. Roy Jones and Max Kellerman started going off on Paul not looking the same and how he should retire by round fucking 1. Every left hand Lara was landed, granted they were a lot, started another discussion among the commentary that Paul is unsafe in the ring blah blah

And as usual Harold Lederman gets into the whole "streaky" scoring where he gives a fighter 1 clear round, then he'll give all close rounds in succession to the same fighter ex Alexander/Kotelnik, Pacquaio/Marquez. There's no way you give Williams only 3 rounds, and it seemed like Lederman was "generous" in giving those rounds too.

There's a lot of factors in play with the telecast that is sure to sway peoples minds. Keep in an open mind to it and don't act like this was Whitaker-Chavez.

            • Lara landed close to 50% of total punches, 50% of his power punches and 100% of his left hooks.. and the smartest thing he did was pick his spots. Your not gonna go toe to toe with a giant, you have to pick your spots punch and get out just like Martinez did. Lara was clearly robbed here. Just because Paul is the agresser doesn't mean his winning the rounds.

              • Even Sergio Martinez who doesn't even understand English much(He knows how to type it but I doubt he understand what Kellerman and Jones Jr. are saying.) scored the fight for Lara by wide wide margins.

Not confusion. Politics. It's house fighter all the way unless they're in abandon ship mode on one of their guys. Williams was clearly in the latter, but HBO brass wants to try to motivate him giving him a gift here I guess.

I watched the fight on an TV channel from Argentina, so I couldn't listen to HBO commentators, and still for me it was a wide decision for Lara.

yeah i was thinking the same thing. lederman scored mattyse-alexander for mattyse but he scored alexander-kotelnik for alexander widely so i think they were pulling the plug on alexander just like they did with williams last night.

it's just sad when boxing fans fall for their agenda hook line and sinker. they use biased commentary and phony compubox numbers to make stars and setup future fights. calzaghe-hopkins for example where they pretended calzaghe was giving him a beating so they could sell their shoddy calzaghe-jones ppv fight or alexander-kotelnik so they could sell their fake bradley-alexander super fight.
