I meant to put that Lara deserved to win.
Who deserved to win: Williams or Lara?

The problem is this, Lara won beyond a doubt but he didn't make it exciting at all. If Paul wasn't dumb and kept getting caught with overhand left after overhand left Lara would have lost because that was really the only punch he was throwing. Now with that being said Paul needs a new trainer and Lara needs to understand when u fighting a big name sometimes you are have to leave it in the ring, meaning go for the knock out.Comment

lmfao!williams lost the offensive aspect by huge margins. williams lost the defensive aspect by huge margins. the 2 most important things in judging. what's left? effective aggression and ring generalship. if you can't land cleanly your aggression isn't very effective and if you keep running into punches over and over you are the type of general who gets all his troops killed.

Defensive aspect?
How on earth did you score the fight for Williams on the offensive aspect? That is the real question.Comment

Excellent post! Green K.It hurts me to say because I love Paul and drove from North Carolina to AC to watch the fight, but he lost and it wasn't close. Only rounds I for sure thought he won were 4 and 5 and only because Lara didn't do much and he uglied them up. I hate they gave him the decision, because really it makes people hate on him more when all he did was give it his all and just wasn't skilled or good enough to beat a guy who finally showed all the talent and potential people thought he had. Lara IMO beats every single guy at 154, and I believe it even more now after watching Molina beat the pants off of Cintron.
The only thing I'm not sure I agree with is that Lara beats everyone at 154. Maybe eventually, but I don't think he's ready yet. Erislandy's performance against P. Will was complete, but I believe Paul is fading. It doesn't take away from Lara's victory (yes, victory), but I'd like to keep things in perspective.
I, too, gave rounds 4 and 5 to Paul. There were a couple of rounds that I thought were close and could conceivably been given to Williams, but that's it. The closest possible score I can stomach is 7-5, or 115-113. And that's stretching it.
Sorry you had to make that long drive and watch your man get pounded on and receive a shameful decision. It sucks that Paul didn't come right out and say he lost, but I understand many of the factors that might've been going through his (dazed) head. P. Will seems like a decent guy. He fought courageously and never stopped coming. He had his moment in the sun, but now he needs to walk away before he gets hurt.Comment

Agree 100%, especially with the bold. No way this decision gets overturned, unless corruption can be proven, and even then.... The absolute worst decision you can imagine (is this it?) would never be overturned because it would have repercussions well beyond the score. It would set a precedent where future decisions would be called into question and a vicious cycle of accusations would be set in motion. People that placed winning bets would have to give their money back (yeah, right), and losers would have to be compensated (double, yeah right). In short...fuhgetaboutit.This was an absolute travesty, no question Lara should have won, but one thing I never understand about this forum is why people actually come off like they blame the other fighter. Paul isnt the judge, he doesnt score the fight.
My heart goes out to Lara, it really does. This fight doesnt require a rematch as it wasnt really close, but thats the very best Erislandy can hope for as hell will freeze over before a decision like this gets overturned.Comment

Most of the Cuban defectors don't have an exciting style. They've fought in the amateurs for so long that they're set in their ways. They don't give points for style in the ams. The only clear exception is Gamboa. He's a force of nature, with a natural style that's inherently suited to the pros. Lara appears to have the potential to evolve, but the jury is still out....The problem is this, Lara won beyond a doubt but he didn't make it exciting at all. I'd have been happier if he had just gotten the 116-112 or so loss he deserved. He has nothing to be ashamed of, he fought bravely and never gave in or gave up. He did everything that people on here crush guys like Mosley and Haye for not doing. Instead of just packing it in and trying not to get hurt like those 2 he went out there and for every second of that fight fought hard and tried to win, and just wasn't good enough. I'm not upset I made the drive, because he's done nothing but put on entertaining fights and leave everything he has in the ring and I will always support a guy like that. As for walking away I would suggest he try fighting one more fight against some kind of non-slick right handed fighter. He looked bad, but I think 3 factors contributed to that. He's not as good anymore, Lara is really good, and Lara fights the style that the prime PW struggled with. I want to belive 2 and 3 are the biggest reasons he looked so bad and that with a better opponent for his style he could still beat some good opponents. So hopefully he gets the ****** idea of fighting Martinez again out of his mind, and fights some kind of righty that will stand in front of him more and if he looks bad in that walk away with his heath and money.Excellent post! Green K.
