I remember when there was no IBF, WBO or IBA. The WBC and WBA belts are the oldest and IMO most prestigious. The IBF has become valid now. WBO and IBA are jokes to me. Ring Magazine is good in that it is awarded only when #1 fights #2 or #3. That said, because ODH owns the magazine, the rankings could be somewhat biased.
What order to you put these world champion belts?

It irritates me to see fighters in one division holding 8 belts (Wlad for example) or fighters parading around with belts nobody even knows where the fu.ck they got them (Broner for example). I just wish there was one belt per division but I realize that all the bit.ching in the world we do isn't gonna change that.
So I guess the only belt I respect is the Ring belt, the WBC was good but it's been losing credibility with handing out belts to Chavez and Canelo and the whole Diamond belt bullcrap.Comment

Shannon Briggs was a "reputed" legit Lineal titlist.............as were several others who reanked well down in their divisions by MERIT. The Lineal line of descent has long ago lost it's legitimacy. The best fighter in a division, should be the BEST fighter. period.
Here's the story. briggs was supposed to be the Lineal Champ, because he beat Foreman, who had beaten Michael Moorer for the IBF title. What is NOT generally known is that Foreman was stripped of the title just after he beat Moorer, and when, a few fights later, he fought Briggs, (and lost) it was for NO TITLE AT ALL, lineal or otherwise.
So Shannon Briggs was not really the lineal titleholder, although the "experts" will have it that he was. With the multiplicity of belts, titles, holders, pretenders to the thrones etc. the once obvious and easy to recognise Lineal holder is becoming, or has already become, just as much a farce as the recent Klitschko/Haye "fight to end all fights".
The lineal holder was once the guy who beat the previously recognised best guy and so on. When the belts split up, it became more complicated, until today it's really a nightmare, and you guys would be better off to forget about "lineal holders". it's a waste of time.Comment

I remember as far back as the NBA and the sometime NYSAC, which I think had something to do with the New York State Athletic Commission (correct me if I'm wrong).I remember when there was no IBF, WBO or IBA. The NBA was THE title. the others came along much later.
Anyway Big Dunn How the heck are you. Are you the same guy I used to exchange comments with on ESB? I had to get out of there, it became a real dirt sack.Comment

My own recollection goes back to the NBA Belt. There was also a very important belt called the NYSAC belt. i think it had something to do with the New York State Athletic Commission (correct me if I'm wrong).I remember when there was no IBF, WBO or IBA. The WBC and WBA belts are the oldest and IMO most prestigious. The IBF has become valid now. WBO and IBA are jokes to me. Ring Magazine is good in that it is awarded only when #1 fights #2 or #3. These were the belts that Joe Louis, Max Baer, Braddock and others fought for.
Hello Big Dunn. Are you the guy I used to exchange comments with over at ESB. I always thought you knew your stuff. I had too get out of there when it became so rotten that a genuine poster couldn't even breathe without being attacked by truckloads of filth and obscenity. BoxingScene is a "gentlemans club" by comparison, although there's sometimes far too much drek thrown around.Comment
