I actually think Floyd would take the fight. I wouldn't have thought that a little while ago but I believe now, yes. I suspect that if he gets by Ortiz impressively, and isn't able to land a big fight, he may look toward Sergio. It's a longshot however, because of the high risk. The reward would have to be just as great.
How Does Martinez Matchup In These 10 Big Fights?

If floyd takes the sergio fight (especially if its over 154) i will retract everything i think and have said about floyd and his choice of opponents since 2003 amd will give him all kindsa props on here (unless something happens to sergio where he doesnt look like the same fighter).
If floyd wants to go the high reward route i guarantee he could get sergio to put his mw ring belt up for grabs at a cw of 157. It would have a lot more historical signifigance than fighting him forwhatever reason at 154.Comment

I agree 100% amd i think they know this.. Sergio is huuuuuungry too. This is a figut i believe floyd would stay far away from, and i respect floyds business sense.
Dlt, i hear what you're saying but you're selling sergio's smarts short. His team gameplans very very well. NO one thought sergio was gonna come ojt and hammer dizzy with the jab. Ajd floyd hasnt really been outsmarting prime all time greats lately himself. Certainly no one like sergio.Last edited by DLT; 07-05-2011, 09:24 PM.Comment

1. Felix Sturm. I think he beats him. In truth, I don't think Sturm has done anything impressive since beating an out-of-shape Oscar De La Hoya. I don't hate the guy, but he just hasn't done anything. He's slower. Probably doesn't hit as hard and he's lacking, it seems, in the intangibles department. Wide decision. Maybe a stoppage.
2. James Kirkland. This might have been a harder choice a year ago. But, I still would have gone with Martinez. Now, I'm going with Martinez by fourth or fifth round stoppage at the most. Too good for a guy like Kirkland who's always been crude and now, apparently, is easier to hit and can't always take the shots.
3. Winky Wright. He'd beat him a few years ago and he'd beat him now. It's hard to say, prime-for-prime. But, at this point, Martinez takes a wide decision.
4. Dmitry Pirog. If it's the Pirog that showed up for Jacobs, it's an interesting fight. If it's the Pirog that we last saw, he doesn't stand a chance. A bit too early to tell what he's more like. I'd pick Martinez. Decision of some sort.
5. Miguel Cotto. He likely beats Cotto by stoppage. Cotto has more of a chance if he gets Martinez to move back down to Jr. Middleweight. Still, I'd pick Martinez to end up stopping Cotto in the later rounds. A bit earlier at Middleweight.
6. Arthur Abraham. Martinez beats him. Martinez has a solid enough punch to keep Abraham honest and covering up. Still, if Abraham comes out like he did with Abraham in the first few rounds, he has a chance. I'd still go with Martinez, however.
7. Jermaine Taylor. In protest, I wouldn't watch. Taylor gets beat and perhaps badly.
8. Paul Williams. I've seen enough to know that more often than not, Martinez is going to get the better of Williams. Some could argue he's done it twice. We know for a fact that it's been at least one BIG time. It'd likely happen again. Especially at Middleweight.
9. Manny Pacquiao. If Pacquiao was hurt to the body by Antonio Margarito, I have a feeling that 154 is simply not Manny's division. I could be wrong, but 147 seems like the more proper fit. I wouldn't count Manny out, but I wouldn't bet on either guy.
10. Floyd Mayweather. Floyd has a better chance at 154. He's done well there the one time that he's been at the weight. Still, I'm not sure it's a fight that Mayweather would want. I'd favor Mayweather, to an extent. But, I wouldn't bet on either guy.Comment

1- Sturm : Sergio by KO, I don't know if in the mid or late rounds. If Sturm fights the way he did against Macklin, he'll be KOd in mid rounds. Against Macklin he had a chance to recover in the last rounds, Sergio wouldn't allow him to do it.
2- Kirkland: Sergio by Brutal early KO. After what we've seen from Kirkland against Ishida I wouldn't give him a chance at all.
3- Winky : Hard to tell, if it was prime Winky it could be a hard fight, but Winky out of reitrement will be a wide UD.
4-Pirog : I think Sergio by UD. Pirog was very good against Jacobs, but then he was mediocre against his next opponent.
5- Cotto : At MW he will beat the crap out of Cotto. I like Cotto, he's a good fighter, but he's just too small for MW. At 154 Cotto could get a chance, but I will go with late TKO by Martinez.
6- Abraham if he's about 90% of what he was : Sergio by wide UD, he could have some problems if Abraham changed his style to be more offensive, but if he fights like in the past bouts he would be UD in a similar way he was against Froch.
7-Taylor if he's about 80% of what he was : Right now? Hard KO by Martinez. A few years ago he could make a fight in the first 8 or 9 rounds, but with his stamina issues he would most likely be KOd in the last rounds.
8-Williams : KO by Martinez, again. Williams just doesn't know how to use his height and his long arms to his advantage. If Williams lets Martinez to get into his guard, he'll be KOd again.
9-Pac at 154 : Right now I think Martinez would beat Pacquiao at 154. Martinez is really fast and is a very slick boxer, when was the last time Pac fought against a slick boxer? At 154 Martinez has just too much punching power for Pac. I couldn't count Pac out because of his speed and punching power, but I think right now it would be a late stoppage against Pac.
10-Floyd at 154 : Really hard to tell, maybe 50-50 right now. It depends a lot on how Floyd looks against Ortiz. It seems like Floyd is getting older and has lost some speed, but we'll have to see. For the moment I would say that it would be a 50-50 fight.Comment
