UK BoxRec article: David Haye disappointed his fans

Haye disappoints in losing wide points decision

    http://news.boxrec.com/news/2011/hay...oints-decision

    Ian McNeilly in Hamburg:

David Haye’s big night was not matched by a big performance as he lost a wide, unanimous points decision and his WBA heavyweight title to Wladimir Klitschko at Hamburg’s Imtech Arena tonight.

For much of the fight, Haye seemed to try the same tactics as he employed against Nikolai Valuev – stay out of range and score occasionally with eye-catching shots – but it just didn’t work on this occasion.

Haye simply didn’t do enough and although my tally was 117-112, there are no complaints about the wider margins given by the judges: 118-108 (Michael Pernick), 117-109 (Adelaide Byrd) and 116-110 (Stanley Christodoulou).

The venue I was at had hundreds of casual Boxing fans cheering and supporting their fellow countryman.

By the 9th round, they were rooting for Klitschko to knock him out.

That's how poor Haye was in the eye of a casual fan.

He was quick to call Wlad's past opponents. He was no better than them.

Terrible performance. At least make an effort to win or go out swinging. :smh:

Some of Wlad's opponents like Tony Thompson and Sam Peter last fall put in a better effort - Haye owes them an apology.

Haye will always be Wladimirs signature win. You shouldnt really write his signature win off as trash :bacop:

Peter didn't do much more than Haye. After three, he clinched and prayed he wouldn't get stopped.

Thompson, Brock, Byrd (II)...there's was surely better effort. Haye deserves all the grief he's getting.

Haye is not Wlad's best win.

It's somewhere between his 6th and 10th best win.

Haha, the exact same thing happened where I was. At the start I was, as far as I could tell, the lone Wlad fan -- certainly the only vocal one (damn pre-drinks) -- but by about round six most people were cheering every time he landed a jab.

I was in a pub in Cardiff for the fight,

It was 80-20 in favour of Haye.

                    Everyone got annoyed by Haye.

By the 12th round they wanted Haye to get knocked out.
