Right now he is 28, so that means he probably has, at most, 3 fights left after the Castillo rematch. If he beats Castillo again what should he do for those three fights?

I don't like it when fighters are talking about retirement at young ages, their hearts doesnt seem to be in boxing anymore.

Move up to 140...where the options are many. Test the waters against some mid-level guys up there & see if he brings his awesome punch with him. Then challenge the big boys.

Even though I give him nothing more than the ultimate puncher's chance against Floyd....it would be very noble of him to have another go.


If he shows 140 is doable....I would love to see him face Cotto.
The Cotto who was almost KO'd last week, WOULD BE KO'd by Corrales.

first fight - a lower level fighter like Gatti, Torres or Mausa
second fight - miguel cotto
last fight - either hatton or a redemtion shot against Mayweather.

Chico seems like an intelligent guy (aside from the spousal abuse situation).
Hopefully, he'll recognize that he has absorbed a lot of punishment over his career.
With his style & his attitude....the punishment will continue, even in victory.

With most fans retirement is a double edged sword for any fighter. If he talks about retirement or even does retire he is knocked for not fighting this guy or for not staying active long enough to secure his legend.

On the other hand when the fighter stays in the ring and fights past his prime he will then be knocked for being old and over the hill. He could possibly have these thoughts read to him by a friend as the words slip past his mind, his eyes focused into a distant field, his mind someplace else.




I say that more fighters should retire earlier. I have a hard time watching the past greats plugging around a ring in chase of an up and comer that they would have easily handled in their younger years. If Chico wants to retire in 2 years than I say good for him. If he chooses to retire next month then I would say again, good for him. A fighters life is one that few in here know. For a fighter to get out with a few dollars in his pocket and most of the marbles left in his head can only be a good thing.
