When you beat Casamayor, Freitas, and Castillo almost within the same year, and find you're not getting as much credit as you deserve, I'd think about retirement too. It's a shame Casamayor couldn't keep winning cuz I would have loved a third one between them. I'm glad Corrales is being smart about his career. I think this will motivate him to win out over Castillo this week and then maybe get Morales at 135.

Good and bad to hear to me.
Good in that he can retire early having accomplished what guys who stayed in the game alot longer than him couldn't do, He has a pretty good legacy. Fought in one of the greatest fights of all time....and so on.
Bad in that he is a good thing for boxing, especially boxing at the lower weights....he's a big puncher and a good finisher.
I mean let's face it, he'll never be "Iron" Mike, but he is a pretty good guy.

On the other hand when the fighter stays in the ring and fights past his prime he will then be knocked for being old and over the hill. He could possibly have these thoughts read to him by a friend as the words slip past his mind, his eyes focused into a distant field, his mind someplace else.
I say that more fighters should retire earlier. I have a hard time watching the past greats plugging around a ring in chase of an up and comer that they would have easily handled in their younger years. If Chico wants to retire in 2 years than I say good for him. If he chooses to retire next month then I would say again, good for him. A fighters life is one that few in here know. For a fighter to get out with a few dollars in his pocket and most of the marbles left in his head can only be a good thing.

Corrales is probaly gonna go to war again with Castillo, and lose on purpose to have a third fight, than win the last one and fight two more big money fights against eilites (knowing he'll lose)..

Originally posted by Panic-PunchYou have a very good point. But fighters should not continue their career if they fought too many wars and took a lot of punishment. Brawlers like Pacquiao, Corrales, Morales, Gatti etc. usually have short careers because of all the damage that they are taking because of their styles which is not good for any fighter, but good for the sport.
