I prefer the likable enthusiast type like Al Berstein, Mario Lopez, Ice Man Joe Scully, who almost never criticise a fighter and show upmost respect to everyone, but what can you do? Merchant does tell it how he sees it, and you have to respect that. Just be glad, it's Merchant and not a bull**** artist hypocrite like Teddy Atlas.
Atleast Teddy Atlas has trained and boxed before.
Larry just talks out his a$$.

They need to retire this bitter old ******* that obviously hates the sport these days.
That's the thing that pisses me off about him too. I agree that the fight was ****ty, but at least try to be professional by calling it instead of talking about your personal feelings. The guy is too grumpy at this point, and he need to call it a day. The Sky Sports commentators are just as biased as well, but at least they're more professional and most of the time respectful of every Boxers after their fights unlike Merchant.

Which means he should know better than disrespect fighters, knowing what they go through to get in the ring. Merchant is an old fool, he has an excuse, Atlas doesn't that makes him worse. Not to mention Atlas seems to be driven by pure hatred and bias, Merchant just hates on performances

Say what you want about the Sky Sports commentators, but at least they shows more professional respect toward each and every Boxers fights that they televised. They may be more Pro-biased in favors of British Boxers, but they don't let their personal emotions get in the way as easily as the HBO commentating crew do.

            No..........

            He has every right.
Boxers and trainers have every right to criticize.

            They can relate.

Larry Merchant is great. He has his biases, but he's not afraid to call it as it is.

That's why I respect HBO the most. If a fight is ****ty, they'll call it ****ty. You will NEVER see them do that in Showtime. If it's a 'big fight' they will defend to the death how it's just a strategic mastery.

You guys want smoke blown up your asses? I respect them for calling it how it is. These boxers are making EXTREME amount of money to put on a good show. If they fail to, atleast SOMEONE is holding them accountable.

I don't feel like he was rude AT ALL during the post-fight interviews either.

How many times has Larry Merchant got in to it on air with Foreman and Jones?

I can remember Roy saying some fighter reminded him of himself and big mouth Larry Merchant screams out on air that and I quote....(They might get knocked out roy)

This was after Roy had already lost to Tarver and Johnson.

                Totally disrespectful.

No smoke up the a$$ just shut the F---- up sometime.
                  It's been old.

I can't stand his same old crap each and every fight that is not a blood bath.

He even criticizes boxers out fits.
I remember Victor Ortiz came to the ring against Berto and big mouth Larry says Ortiz is trying to hard because he had the American and Mexican flag with his Kansas Jayhawk colors.

What does what a fighter have on got to do with the fight.

At the end of the day, you have to show some utmost respect to each and every Boxers because they put their health on the line to entertaining us. It's okay call a fight as it is, but at the same time you'd want more new viewers to tune in to watch the Sport, and being a total **** most of the time would turn them away because you're not building up your athletes regardless of how much talent and heart they lacks.
