Larry Merchant has watched more World Championship fights than most if not all commentators today. The man knows what he's talking about.
Even if people hate what he's saying, he told the truth today, even Roy Jones ended up agreeing with him towards the end.

merchants commentary adds nothing but hate. it makes ppl want to stop watching. its very counterproductive. I thought the fight was **** but it wasn't totally Hayes fault. Vlad has no killer instinct whatsoever. it was both their faults. instead of hating I wanna hear expert commentary. I could come on here for all of the hating.

larry merchant openly trashed david haye from the beginning to the very end. a little bit of me wanted to see haye catch wlad with a knockout punch for comical purposes, just to see how larry would react. i think roy and jim lampley were a little baffled as i was at the amount of trash larry was spittin tonight.

          Listen............

Being negative for one or two bad fights is one thing.

Being negative for every damn fight thats not a slug fest is another.

          Every fight won't be Gatti/Ward.
And to top it off, this idiot has never been in a ring and gone to war.

And whats up with Harold Letterman?
Is he blind or something because 85% of the time I never agree with his score card lol.

I was trying really hard to enjoy what I could of the fight, but Larry damn near made me shut off my TV. He was RELENTLESS with hatred and bitterness. I mean he has always been like that but instead of one negative rant per round he was on like three or four. It was absurd. I really like Max Kellerman and I hope to see him taking Larry's or Emmanuel "this is exactly how i predicted the fight to go" Steward's place more often.

Exactly both had garbage performances, but merchant didn't see it that way! Him and Lampley were only criticizing Haye! I agree he fought way to cautious, but Wlad did too! Heavyweight division isn't worth watching anymore!! I was so hyped for this fight cause of all the **** Haye was talking I wanted to see him get knocked out but Wlad fought scared too!! What a let down!!!!

Seems every network has a bitter old carnt commentator. HBO have Merchant, ESPN have Atlas (by far the worst right now), Showtime have Jim Gray, and I've heard a guy on Top Rank broadcasts disrespect fighters, Dave Von Tempo, but he's not that bad.

I prefer the likable enthusiast type like Al Berstein, Mario Lopez, Ice Man Joe Scully, who almost never criticise a fighter and show upmost respect to everyone, but what can you do? Merchant does tell it how he sees it, and you have to respect that. Just be glad, it's Merchant and not a bull**** artist hypocrite like Teddy Atlas.

I don't care how many fights he has watched.
It doesn't make him an expert.

Now if you would have said that Larry Merchant has been in and fought in alot of championship fights , that would be different.

Larry usually looks like he's had a little to drink to me. He's the old drunk grandpa on HBO.
