I really hope he comes out and looks great and rethinks this stance. He should stick with 154 and clean out the division. He is good enough to beat every single fighter at 154. Now on the other hand if he looks bad and doesn't appear to be the same fighter then I hope he sticks with his guns and does retire.
Williams sees retirement in his near future

Doubt it. Hes not retiring. Because no JMW can beat him thats not named Martinez.Comment

What's he going to do if he isn't fighting? He hasn't made enough money to support him for the rest of his life, and he's too dumb to do anything else.Comment

154 is a healthy division. Not the time to retire. He's taken some abuse but none you'd think would take a ton of time off him. Just keep him away from punchers.Comment

An objective eye.
He's probably noticing Williams is already slowing down behind the scenes. I mean the guy fights like the Mexican warriors despite freakish physical attributes. That speeds up your boxing age quick.
He's starting to get stunned and hurt more often, when a few years ago, you couldn't hurt this dude.
of course I'm speculating. Peterson just needs to get him back to fighting like he did for Wright though. Use that reach. Paul fights like that, and he's too hard to beat, even for the middleweights.Comment

It's one thing to give him advice, but being THAT specific (telling him he should quit in 2 fights) is another thing. Way to boost your fighter's confidence (especially after a loss) by telling him he should quit soon. There's nothing wrong Williams. Peterson needs to stop holding Williams back and let him get a new trainer. An objective eye.

I believe I read Froch will let his trainer determine when his time in the sport is done.Comment

The truth of the matter is he's taken a lot of punishment over his career, so it's probably the smartest thing for him as far as his health goes, which at the end of the day SHOULD be more important than fighting. A brutal KO loss to Sergio, a 12 round slug fest with Sergio, took a few bombs from Kermit, took a lot of shots from Margarito and ate a lot of shots in most of his other fights as well. All of that adds up and wears down a fighter. Remember he once had an iron chin and who knows how is punch resistance is at this point (we'll see).
But I agree with others not sure why he's making it public at this stage.Comment
