And the new WBA middleweight champion is Matthew Macklin, you think im worried about what the pathetic organisations think? make me laugh son these eastern europeans can hold the 'titles' for as long as they want but its clear they dont deserve them, yet another british world champion, because every man and his dog knew who won that fight

Punchstats were the same at Round 11 (139-131 for Macklin) , alot of his punches didnt hit Sturm.
Thats what I am guessing the judges saw, but a lot of the fans didnt.

          Link anyone please ?

I had macklin one up and that's giving the close rounds to sturm ( like I expected the judges to do ) the fact it was wide on two cards just shows what people are up against going to Germany for a title fight! Sturms body language after the final bell is of a man who knows he's fate is the hands of minor travesty.
Even tho mack won in my eyes he did throw it away slightly by letting sturm back into rounds after they was banked in the first 2 minutes or letting the first minute pass before launching he's attacks.
I'm not surprised sturm got the nod what I am surprised is that it was so wide

Absolutely great fight. Just goes to show how difficult it is to get a decision over there.

In this fight Macklin pressured sturm from the start, closed the distance well and made sturm fight his fight, landing some wicked body shots in the process.

It wasn't until the middle rounds that sturm managed to find a little room to use his superior skills and fight at long range. By no means though could he keep it there, he was far to easy to oil into a close quarters toe to toe type brawl which is what suited macklin.

In the last quarter of the fight sturm was able to use his fantastic jab with much greater effect and looked like a completely different fighter, at times he made macklin look extremely crude. To macklin credit none of sturm's attacks went unanswered, after every attack he would rally with a few punches of his own. The quality of Lucy though was with sturm and I couldn't help but think that if sturm had adopted this approach much earlier in the fight, he could well have stopped macklin.

The result I feel was unfair but not unexpected. I had it a very close fight with macklin just pipping it, with his success in the early rounds. It was a case of to little to late for sturm. However this is Germany and in order to take a decision from a home champ over there, you have to leave no doubt stall, and macklin didn't do that. I am a firm believer that if you want the title you have to rip it from the champ and he didn't do that either, sturm class in the final quarter of the fight was to much for macklin to deal with and I think that in the days of 15 round fights it would have been slate stoppage for sturm.

All in all macklin can hold his head high, it was always going to he a tall order but he went over there and fought his heart out, he had the perfect plan to neutralize sturm superior boxing skills and pulled it of for the most part, he only fell foul to a home decision, which the past has proven is far to common in Germany.

Same old hysteria whenever a Brit loses a fight on decision in a close one.
For me it was extremely close, more work from Macklin far better quality from Sturm.

Brawley work rate is great and entertaining and everything but Sturms work was measured and slick.

I gave it to Sturm by a round.

Are you denying then that a lot of Macklins punches were arm shots that didnt land? In which case....did you even watch the fight?
