In the meantime we've already seen JMM fight and look embarrassing at WW. Good choice for Pac outside of avoiding the blood test/Mayweather fight.

It's just sad and a disgrace that Pac demands a LW champion to fight at WW where we all know for a fact looks horrible. Then again, Bob's said its about "entertainment" and not matching the best vs the best.

You have it wrong. Manny P. was not "demanding" anything. He fights at 144 lbs, and he was looking for an opponent who would be good enough to cause interest in the fight. Marquez has been looking for this fight for years, and grabbed at it. he has hired a specialist to put on enough muscle to make him heavier, with still his same, present speed. Not at all like the mayweather fiasco, where he was really taken advantage of.

Marquez can come in at any weight he wants to under 144, which is the easiest thing in the world for him to do.

No, that is completely incorrect, Manny is popular because he is a super-hyped media creation supported by a huge non-boxing national fanbase.

IMO, Manny is not a popular boxer at all, he is just popular, period.

If Donaire was fighting a title fight on the same night that Manny was performing a concert, MOST of his fanbase would go watch the concert and would show little-to-no interest in Donaire's title fight.

Manny is more popular with casual fans than he is with hardcore boxing fans.

Ward keeps winning, Martinez keeps winning, Donaire keeps winning, John keeps winning, Marquez keeps winning, Rios keeps winning, Bradley keeps winning, Hopkins keeps winning..... but NOT ONE of those fighters get anywhere near the kind of media-fluffing that Manny enjoys.

And ALL of those fighters, with the exception of John, have a much better recent resume than Pacquiao.

But floyd generates more for less of an initial investment. His replays also avg higher ratings. Look Brick I get the point that Manny's fights are expected to be more action packed. But there is more to it than that. Whatever it is, charisma, hate, talent, floyd simply does more than Manny. He made more out of his ODH opportunity than Manny did. Obviously floyd being an american is part of it.

We don't know how much HBO or Showtime make from the advert spots, it's obviously more than enough to not worry about whether they pay 5 or 10 mill to either manny P. or Mayweather. they're after Pacquiao this time with all their BIG GUNS blazing to try to get him at ALL costs. Before, they were only dealing with the HBO Sports department, this time with HBO/Time Warner. And so are Showtime with CBS as well.

There is absolutely NO reason to doubt rum's announcement, since it would be so easy to disprove, and he has no reason to make up stories which would discredit him when found out.

He is, of course also stirring up interest in the fight, but that's his business and expertise, and every little bit of advantageous news helps.

No, Pacquiao did " demand " welterweight for Marquez.

And originally, a catch-weight was out of the question.

Come on man, EVERYBODY knows that Manny is a natural JWW, and that Ariza cannot keep any weight on Pac when he is training. He has to eat 6 meals a day and 3am/6am shakes to remain within the welterweight limit.

It would be FAR EASIER for Manny to fight Marquez at 140, and it is plainly obvious that Marquez is less effective above 135.

So, why do you think Pacquiao insisted upon the highest weight possible ?
