On the promotional side of it, promoters don't want to put big name guys in events on Thursday nights because they know they'll draw better on the weekends. I remember there used to be a some big names and big venues on USA Tuesday Night Fights, but that was back when boxing was much bigger in America.
However, I completely agree. I wanted to go running and then out for drinks with my friends tonight, but I'm probably not going to have time to do both because of how late this card is running (and i'm on Central Time).
I watch a lot more Sky PPV weekend cards these days, because I get my boxing fix in 11-1pm-ish, and don't have to sacrifice my Sat. Night.
I never, ever watch Friday Night Fights anymore, because I always have something going on. If it were Thursday Night Fights I wouldn't miss and episode.
Exactly, on a Thursday night your average fan amd hardcore fam is home amd can and will watch it. And BAD can get there fighters exposure for when they go on championship boxing and give them a reason to stay around.
Sergio Martinez is the perfect example. He shows up almost out of no where and becomes one of them top p4p fighters. But no one knows him because he went straight from no where to late night on Saturday.
Hbo needs to stop doing that. And they def need to stop expecting east coast fans to stay in on Saturday to watch these fights. It's no mystery why the sport is doing so much better west coast than east coast.
