Still trying to figure out why a "matchmaker" is need in the sport. Why can't a fighter just another fighter?

I agree with most everyone on the thread. Kelly has no business fighting Bute. At least not yet. This has the potential of being the type of loss for Pavlik that could, well... drive a man to drink.
Really what does it take to please boxing fans? They criticize Arum for putting his fighters against each other, and for not having them take risks. Now he puts Pavlik against a very risky fighter with Bute, who is outside of the Top Rank stable, and everyone is criticizing him yet again. Why the hypocricy?
Exactly what is going through my mind. Perhaps, as boxing fans, they would like to see Bute vs Alphonso Lopez and Pavlik vs Magee next. Go figure.

It's not the match up that people are questioning. It is the timing of the match-up. Pavlik just came back from a year and a half self induced hiatus were he and his handlers say his alcohol consumption was out of control. Now we all saw him on the undercard of Pac vs Mosley. He looked like a shell of his former self. He at least needs time to get back into championship fighting shape. Then he can build up to a fight that will not be so one sided. If not he will be Bute's sacrificial lamb and will be led to the slaughter.

I think Pavlik and Paul Williams have a little unfinished business. Both are coming off loses to Martinez and both need to regain their past form, so I think that match-up would be better for both of their careers right now.

And Bute, we don't really know if he is that much of a power puncher. His resume just doesn't tell you a whole lot.

I'm amazed at how shot people think pavlik is.

I'm still deferring to what Teddy Atlas said, and I agreed with most of it.

People don't pay attention to the little stuff.
            *He had head movement
*He was using a nice counter left
*He didn't just walk into punches

My opinion is Pavlik shouldn't take this fight so soon. He needs to have a few fights leading up to it. At least one more first. And he definitely shouldn't fight in Montreal.

No offense to the Canadians, but Pavlik won't get a fair decision if the fight goes 12 rounds.

And again, People at Boxing Scene can be such turncoats. Almost everyone in this place loved this guy when he was coming up, beat Zurtuchi, Miranda, Taylor with hugely impressive KOs (more impressive than any Bute has ever had).
They have common opponents and i say it tells us quite a bit.

Miranda - Pavlik went life and death for a few rds and then got 2 KD's (or was it 3) Bute stopped him with 1 punch.

Zuniga - Pavlik got dropped and came back to TKO him in the 9th. Bute dropped him, hurt him badly and got a TKO. People discredit this win by saying Zuniga moved up in weight but fail to note how 2 years after the Bute loss he went 12 rds with LHW Cloud and gave him a tough fight.

P.S. The Berrio KO is as savage a KO you'll ever see and along with 1 punch KO's over Miranda and Andrade are a more impressive trio than Taylor, Miranda, Zertuche.

Miranda was a TKO. It was not a KO.

Whatever. Let's look at the youtube vids. Kelly was the first to KO all three of those guys. You're talking up damaged goods for Bute. The Zertuche KO is more brutal than any of Bute's. That's not even up for discussion. He had to go to the Hospital.

When Kelly fought all those guys they were at higher points in their careers, higher confidence levels. Period. Younger.
