Ortiz is just another overweight, slow, mediocre HW who won't go too far. His opponent was another fat guy and only 5'10".

The Cuban HW who does impress me though, is Mike Perez - he looks like a bona-fide top ten contender.
Ortiz is barely on my radar. I'll take your word for it that he's not impressive, as it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Perez is one of the "Irish" Cubans. I've only seen pictures of him. He has a Mike Tyson-type build: short (6' tall) and muscular. I imagine that the comparisons stop there. lol

    What impresses you about Mike?

        Just another fat bum,

Been keeping track of Ortiz for a while now, would like to see him step it up a little more though.

If this were the '60s, I'd say he was fat. lol By today's standards, he's in decent shape for a heavyweight. 234 lbs. for a boxer who stands 6'4" is very reasonable.

Nice amateur record, by the way. I was unaware of it. Thanks for the info.

Handspeed, ability to throw a lot with out gassing, killer instinct, power, good defense.

He's the complete package except for height and reach.

He showed decent handspeed and was throwing combos which is amazing for a HW but i wouldn't call him a blue-chip with the horrid state of the division he could make some waves

Nice. Thanks for the input. I'm gonna have to look Perez up on Youtube.

Perez is MUCH better than Ortiz:

It's easy to win 300 fights almost exclusively in Cuba or against Canadian, Mexican, American, Brazilian HW's. He only fought at World level once or twice and never did anything there, to say it's a deceptive record is an understatement.
