Boxing has long been a sport where different ethnicities represent their heritage when facing off against each other. Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Irish, Polish, and Italian American fighters have all used their heritage to get fans behind them and represent their homelands and neigbourhoods when stepping into the ring.

People immigrate to places for different reasons and have different views on national and ethnic pride. Donaire is ethnically Filipino and he represents that by coming into the ring with the Filipino flag. It's not uncommon at all. Many Mexican-Americans bring both the US and Mexican flag, sometimes even just the Mexican flag, even if they never lived in Mexico. The same way Paul Malignaggi has "Italy" and the Italian flag on all his apparel/trunks, even though he's probably never even been there.

the difference between mexican americans , malignaggi and donaire is that donaire was born , and lived there , and spoke the native language .

      you can't just ignore that

If you move here as a child and live here the rest of your life and gain citizenship, that makes you an American. If you claim the hometown you fight out of is Santa Clara, California (I think?) that makes you an American fighter.

Donaire is NOT American. He might have passport but that means nothing. He was born in the Phillipines and lived there until he was like 11. Therefore he's not American.

Donaire is indeed an American. He may of been born in another country but he lived there when he was tiny. He wasn't 11, he was 9. He was brought up in American schools, adapted American culture, and despite knows his roots the American lifestyle is what he lives by. If that doesn't make you an American I don't know what does. His family busted their butts to come here and by you saying they aren't American could be looked at as a slap in the face. This isn't England where everyone just stays and dies, this is America, the land of opportunity. People that don't want to accept Donaire as a Filipino-American are people that don't know much about America in general.
