I dont think anything fishy is going on here. To me they look like the 16 oz training gloves.

16oz sparring gloves and 8oz sparring gloves are two totally different animals

sparring gloves are made for protection thus foam that is firmer and more resilient.

Maybe its because they were using 10oz not the usual 8 oz he wears.
