His chances aren't high. He's a pretty strong WW, and has some decent pop in his punches, however, his lack of experience on the big stage, and high opposition will ultimately bring an L to his record against Mayweather. Mayweather is simply to good, skilled, and a solid veteran, as well as an elite fighter. I see Mayweather countering Ortiz's jab, which he leaves out, as he measures opponents with it, and making Ortiz hesitant of opening up. Why? Because Ortiz works of his jab, and while he's measuring Mayweather will be connecting. Thus, forcing Ortiz to become more aggressive, which will only create more openings for Mayweather to exploit. Ortiz might even quit after finding it hard to penetrate Mayweather's defense. It might not be a Maidana type quit, but he will mentally quit imo.

He has the right style and assets to at least give him a shot.

Against Floyd, the most successful opponents have gotten rough, aggressive and showed some balls(willing to take one to give one is necessary against Floyd). Ortiz showed against Berto he can fight that way with some real mental strength and keep it up.

Usually that amounts to being picked apart and worn down late. However, Ortiz is one of the best punchers Floyd will have faced in his career AND he is a southpaw(who I believe Floyd struggles with).

I wouldn't pick against Floyd, but I do think Ortiz has perhaps the best skill set to challenge Floyd of any fighter at 147(outside of Pacquaio).

ortiz has a chance if the fight is in dallas... xylocaine is illegal in dallas... if no xylocaine, there is a chance for floyd to hurt his hands early in the fight...

Watching Maidana, Peterson, Berto its very obvious Ortiz is a sucker for right hand bombs and pull counters. He doesn't move his head and he doesn't know how to hold. I think he's very green. Is the only way he wins if is if he gets lucky? Mayweather has this one in the bag. Very smart choice of opponents. The dude knows boxing.
The key factors that may help Ortiz win:

              1. Southpaw, even though Floyd has beaten southpaws before, he fights less of them and may be susceptible early in the fight.

              2. Youth, he has the advantage of youth on his side, you never know when age will finally creep up on Floyd.

              3. Ortiz is willing to trade punches while the other guy is punching, he won't do what shane did and wait for an opening.

              4. Mental state, Ortiz has shown improvement over his mental state. In his last fight where he overcame a hard knockdown and kept coming forward to knock the other guy down. Earlier in his career he seemed to mentally leave the ring halfway through the fight and give up. Victor's will to win will be a big factor.

Nah, theres a lot of reasons why fights are made. This being a tune up for Pacquiao hopefully is the reason why its being made and therefore is a good reason for it to happen.

This is Floyd Mayweather though. People dont give Floyd enough credit for a solid chin. He took a solid shot from Mosley and other fighters like Corley. If he lands big on Mayweather. Floyd is gonna wake up start spitting fireballs like when Mario gets that fire flower and his suit turns white.
