Thats cool. Its not my style I think of sparring as practice, I'm not there to body bag my guy just to work on my own technique.
I wont tap gloves every ten seconds, but if something dumb like me throwing a ridiculous haymaker and missing then falling on the floor and the guy puts his gloves out to make light of the situation I wouldnt respond by popping him twice.
To each his own though.,
I feel you 100%, it's just the Philly gym war scene. Every trainer wants to have a 1 up on the other. SO if we're not getting work in with our teammates, we're going full force.
A lot of times we're not from the same gym, have different trainers, etc. You don't want anyone coming to your gym and 1 upping your fighters - that's the rule we go by here. And when we go to other gyms, we make sure we destroy ****. Yes, it's just sparring.. but as you can see.. fighters gloat about what they do to other fighters in sparring all the time.
**** that glove touching and respect ****. When the bell rings, do your thing. I've always been told, no touching gloves, no talking, no nodding, no nothing. You hug, kiss, shake hands, pat each other on the ass, do whatever AFTER the work is done.
Kirk did what he is trained to do. REspect no one, be a killer. This is the hurt business, that Shane Mosley glove touch after every clinch has no place in the ring.

I know what you mean. I lived in Philly up until 5 years ago I didnt go to any of the boxing gyms there because I only started when I moved out but we get alot of guys from the city here and they dont **** around.
Fortunately the owner of the gym I go to is cool with just about every trainer in the area so nothing gets too ugly.
I'd love to see Kirkland come back stronger than ever but he really needs to work on and improve his defense, in those sparring videos he still just stands and takes the shots head on.
