What's the bet the odds on Ortiz are less than 5 to 1?
nah the odds will be higher than 5 to 1 to be honest i reckon they will be around 8 to 1 if not higher - everyone is counting ortiz out on this

an interesting fact - every fighter Ortiz has faced has tasted the canvas whether he won the fight or not. Floyd better be careful or he could go down "officially" for the first time in his career (i excluded the time he broke his hand)

For me it's hard to count him out. Floyd may very well give him a technical boxing lesson, i recognise that is a very likely outcome, but it's hard to count out a guy who will be 10-12 pounds heavier on the night, has power in both hands, can box inside and outside and can throw 60-70 punches a round over 12 rounds, and is a SP.

Didnt Arum do the same thing when Yuri Foreman won the title? He put him in there with Miguel Cotto and you see what happened with that. At least Vic stands a chance.

Let's get real. What Arum is talking about is Ortiz just after a big win will be feed to Mayweather losing his potential to earn more. GBP isn't good at building their fighters up like what Arum is doing.

Though this is a good matchup, it is too early for Ortiz. Arum sees potential in Ortiz. If Ortiz was under Arum, he will build him up better than what GBP is doing now.

Go ask Gamboa and Lopez if it is "too early" to fight. Bob only builds up one guy at a time. He would do to Ortiz what he did to Cotto. Build him up only to offer him up to the biggest top rank guy (and at a catchweight that gives the top guy more of an advantage).

I have to agree with Arum on this.

Ortiz has the potential to be a star, but I also understand that an opportunity to fight Mayweather may only come once.

I just hope Victor can hold his own, and get shine off Mayweather.

And give us crappy fights in the same breath. Ortiz was already being built up by fighting less challenges but then he met Maidana and the tough fighter Maidana was made Ortiz fold. so in actuality, letting Ortiz fight soft touches didn't help him when he went up against Marcos. After, Ortiz fought Campbell and Peterson which didn't do anything really for him. Berto is the fight that put him over the top because Ortiz had alot to prove like he does now with Mayweather. Can't believe boxing fans continue to say Ortiz is not ready. How many fighters must he fight before he is? Dude is a world champion now. Let him fight instead of giving the fans wak fights like Arum. Bob's method didn't do any justice for Juan Manuel Lopez.

I hope Ortiz comes in lighter for this fight, he'll need the speed to deal with Mayweather.
