Only if you consider Mayweather never having lost the lineage since beating Baldomir for it.
Shane Mosley was not lineal champion when Floyd beat himComment

IMO, there will be no lineal championship until Pac/May face off, or, one of them loses but that's just me, I hold the lineal in high regard and I hate it when people butcher it's prestige with "retiring" or fighting inferior defenses (* Foreman in the 90's).Last edited by madsweeney; 06-07-2011, 02:01 PM.Comment

Floyd Mayweather vacated it when he retired after the Hatton fight, then Cotto won it after a series of victories at Welterweight, then Antonio Margarito won it when he defeated Cotto, Shane Mosley became lineal champion after he beat Margarito, and Floyd won it back after he defeated Mosley last May and since he never retired he still has it. So yes, it is for the Lineal Championship. You don't lose a lineal championship because someone moves up in weight (like Manny did) and becomes a sensation, Lineal championships don't work that way.
Look at the heavyweight division, Wladimir is considered the Lineal champion even though his brother came back from retirement and David Haye moved up in weight. A Lineal champion is the man who beat the man who beat the man which Floyd did at Welterweight.
Now like others have said the Ring Magazine belt is a different story.Comment

according
to most rankings,(ring, espn, etc) Mayweather was dropped from them because of inactivity so unless he beats ortiz, he shouldnt be in the rankings at all if we go by their thinking........so #2 vs unranked doesnt = #1Comment
