As harsh as it may sound, it's not Arums job to hype up Martinez to the fans, but Dibella's. Now Arum was willing to do it, but only if Dibella agreed to a buy out. IMO that was fair because Dibella has done a **** job with Martinez. Dibella should have took the few million Arum offered to buy him out, and allowed Bob to make Cotto vs Martinez by doing all the promotional work.
I agree that Dibella should have let Arum handle Cotto vs Martinez but I don't think he has done a **** job. He has taken chances and Martinez' skill pulled through. In a Pacquiao fight, I wouldn't call a buy out fair because like Dibella said a few years ago no one knew cared about Martinez and now he's very high on everyone's p4p list. That's only possible with the right fighter and good match making.

He put Mosley,Clottey and Margarito infront of Pacquiao. Hell he even said Marquez wasn't a draw not too long ago, yet he's going to fight Pacquiao again and you can bet anything that the fight is going to outsell anything Pacquiao has done since ODLH only if it's promoted properly which is a for sure thing.
oh i agree.....him vs a draw like pac, floyd and cotto would do pretty good .... but he still aint a draw becuase he has'nt done anything to suggest it, whcih is my whole point.....

dont know if pac vs sergio would outdo pac's fihts with shane , cotto and margo tho.....i think it would outdo the clottey fight for sure....

if the wlad-haye fight (no doubt boxing fans want to see this) can't make it as a hbo ppv fight in the US i doubt martinez-chavez will. and even it ends up as ppv, to say it will outnumber previous big ppv fights is just ridiculous. too much nuthugging there.

The responsability of the promoters is to promote a fighter to the casual fans and what better way to promote Martinez as the 2nd P4P fighter in the world. If Arum can promote an even more obscure fighter like Clottey to the casual fans, then breaking the 1 million limit with Martinez is an easy job. The problem is that he is very well capable of beating all three and sadly, that's Martinez' only problem.

On the promotional point of view Martinez has a big edge on Pacquiao's, Chavez' and Mayweather's latests opponents. He is on the top pound for pound list and he can be marketed as the biggest fight in recent years. For example, it can be argued that Martinez being #2 and Pacquiao #1 it would be a fight to claim the spot. When was the last time #1 and #2 pound for pound candidates fought each other? There are plenty of ways to market Martinez but since he is good enough to beat all three it's not going to happen.

Well at least not against Pacquiao or Mayweather.

Bro,I applaud & agree with everything U said. But do U see how these fans are actually making up excuses as to why the promoters should not make the fights. Why would a boxing fan not want these fights??

I agree Martinez VS the big 3, Wade, Lebron, and Bosh would do around 1.8 million PPVs.

Kidding aside, I agree with the OP completely.

People forget that Pacquiao and Floyd weren't huge draws until they fought Oscar De La Hoya. Match Martinez with either Floyd and Pacquiao and we have a new boxing star in our hands, the issue is that both Floyd and Pacquiao know the danger in fighting Martinez. Let's say Martinez beats either one in a great performance, Martinez had the charisma, personality, looks and fun friendly style to go mainstream (only problem would be that he needs to learn better English).

They were very good draws before they fought Oscar, just not ATG draws like they are now. Pacquiao-Marquez II set a record for most PPV buys from a fight below welterweight at 400,000. Mayweather I'm pretty sure consistently brought in 300,000 to 400,000 buys in his fights.

Sergio's never even been on PPV.
