  • These two are **** on the assessment of the other. It almost sounds like there bragging each other up. Kind of like when lawyers called each other learned.

He's done a damn good job and what he said was completely true.

edit: oh and LOL at the people in this thread for criticizing Dibella matching Martinez on HBO with solid ass fighters. If Arum got those HBO dates he'd give us soft ass match ups like Pavlik Lockett and ****.
Its amazing all the people on here defending that slimy old man everything Arum says is a lie or a half truth his ppv cards suck, and he cherry picks opponents for his big earners while in the process throwing guys in his own stable to the wolves.Dibella is a great promoter and truly loves boxing if you cannot see that your fcking blind.

      • DiBella is 100% on the money, although Berto is his Chavez. But the business of boxing has overtaken the passion and driven people away from the sport to the UFC, guys like Arum are responsible for that.

          • thats the funny thing about this situation... it comes down to:
            • whats good for boxing
            vs
            • whats good for boxer

you cant blame lou for getting mad at arum for keeping it in-house... but seriously, sergio SHOULD be a bigger draw... someone is slacking on sergio's career.

and people criticizing arum know nothing about business... arum knows what he is doing. if you were margs, clottey, & cotto you would be LOVING arum... arum did what he is SUPPOSE to do for his clients... GET THEM PAID...

i think lou is too emotional... arum is cold steel... i think we all consider what arum has done is "bad" for boxing. but at the same time, those "crap" shows he puts on make $$$$$$$.... arum is the villain. so boxing fans would rather blame arum then actually look at boxing as a whole and see what REALLY is ruining boxing. its just easier for "fans" to jump on the "blame arum" bandwagon, because they dont have anything else to go with.

yes, bob is the "devil"... but he is effective.

            • Just look at what DiBella says "maybe they should look at how HBO is promoting him"....WRONG! you are the promoter!

Why is arguebly the best boxer on the planet only fighting two times a year when he wants to fight more often?

Guys like DiBella and Shaw are not promoters. DiBella couldn't even draw 3k people for the Super Six semi (or most of his fights have empty seats, including the Martinez fights).

Why is Martinez even going after Chavez in the first place? Go after Sturm/Pirog, fights that should of happened this summer. Instead DiBella is hoping HBO allows him to fight Manfredo...GTFO.

              • Have to agree with DiBella on a lot of his statements... It's hard to take Bob Arum seriously when you know if Sergio Martinez decided to sign with Top Rank tomorrow, that he'd be pushing a Martinez vs [insert fighter name] for a PPV fight next month, and demanding Martinez get the lions share of the purse because he's rated P4P #2 in the world. I mean, look how he was with JMM. When the choice was for Berto, JMM, or Mosely - Arum said Juan wasn't a big seller and the Mexican people didn't support him. And, that fight would have been a trilogy scheduled for Mexican Independence weekend FFS. Now that JMM has signed with him, he's an easy sell. Just like how Arum said Mosely was "finished" after the Mora fight, and became Pacs "most dangerous opponent" when he left GBP for TR. Go figure.

DiBella has some good points, but he'll just never be able to afford to market his guys as well as the two biggest PR Companies do at this time. He's a mile ahead of Shaw though IMO. But lets face it - one BIG, well promoted fight for Martinez with either GBP or TR and it could change his status incredibly. Martinez already sells himself through his great performances and nice guy persona. He just needs to be put out there like he deserves so that more people know about him.

                • The networks and television itself were built on boxing. When Bob Arum took Evil kinevels show to pay-per-view, boxing stars and managers took notice. For the stars of the game it was a jackpot, for the game, it was a death sentence. When Bob is done, so too will the sport. Oscar and Floyd thought they got out from under him, obviously not the case.

Also pacquaio didnt even make 150 catchweight and never fought above 150 in his career.

Add the fact that canelo is currently holding that belt.

Im sorry i dont want to ask fighter who attempted to move up in weight and straight up said he couldnt handle it and moved back down.

Its not like martinez didnt fight kelly pavlik(Top Rank fighter) and people uses that in his resume. Martinez is currently campaigning at 160. He straight up said the lowest he can go is 154 while the highest pacquaio can go is at 150(hence he only weighed in at 148 at fight night). Dibella is only looking for money fight. He is not doing anything to help boxing. Just look at the cherry picking he did for Andre Berto. The only reason they let Ortiz vs Berto happen because everyone thought ortiz was done after the quitting against maidana and the draw with peterson. And lets not act like before williams fight, that martinez was fighting nothing but bums.

Everyone cherry picks including martinez. Why do you think the only fighters martinez and dibella are calling out are Canelo, Cotto, Pacquaio, Floyd, and chavez jr. Because they all are one of the biggest draws in boxing.

Arum is ****ing pacquaio legacy, dibella blaming arum for his ****ty ass promotion, Floyd's on vacation, pacquaio being arum's yes men, Donaire being a dumbass, Gary shaw and bradley beef, Bradley not fighting Khan.....and on and on. But some how Arum is ruing boxing because 147 is garbage, and the only challenge for pacquaio is a guy who is campaigning at 160. Im sorry everybody in boxing is to blame. Dibella is just a POS promoter who talking **** about arum for the doing the same **** dibella did for berto.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

                      i disagree.

the business of boxing HASNT changed... the BOXERS have...
the boxers are NOT willing to go WORK for their money...
they want the most money for the least amount of effort...
do you think its the promotors fault that a boxer refuses to fight & stinks out the event to get a mediocre decision???? just to secure his next payday????
do you blame top rank (or shane mosley's promo company) for shanes unwillingness to engage pac?

IMO, the pay structure needs to be reworked... the UFC is succeeding because they keep their fighters HUNGRY... a UFC fighter's sign on wage is VERY low compared to boxing... but UFC fighters get bonuses (KO of the night, Victory Bonus, Fight of the night, etc.).. also UFC fighters rely on sponsorship money. also, dana white will PUBLICLY chastise a fighter's poor performance... basically, POOR PERFORMANCES = CONTRACT TERMINATED

boxers got spoiled by being overpaid UP FRONT... all a boxer has to do is show up & win (by any means necessary...). so we have boxers who are scared to jeopardize their payday... also, the headliners get paid waaaaaaay more than the undercards... the focus is the main event, instead of a solid event overall. its rare to see an event with MULTIPLE big names. our "elite" boxers become spoiled, bratty, primadonnas....

boxing needs to be reworked... PERIOD.
