Arum, does lose money on some of his independent shows, but ends up recouping those losses when he promotes larger shows. His backers have much deeper pockets and can afford to take a loss once a while, where a guy like DiBella has less margin for error, because he operates on much smaller margins.

He doesn't just lose money on shows. How much you think he loses n guys who never make it? Guys like Omar Henry, Edwin valero, or any other fighter he cuts, those guys all got bonuses, and fight checks worth far more than they brought in.

Cotto was fighting on cards making a million dollars bringing in no fans at one point. Same thing with pavlik. Juanma Lopez, nonito, Chavez, these guys were bringing in pennies getting big paychecks.

There's no guarantee who arum will cash out on.

Name me one fighter golden boy has legitimately built up from a early start? Do you have any idea how much money they are losing on Ortiz right now? They failed at every fighter they tried to harvest.

Seriously, I get a feeling most of the people here don't have a college degree. You don't need a business degree to know what is best for you and the people around you. Arum as promoter firstly thinks of his company and his fighters. He wants his company to stay competitive and make money. The number one reason why the company is not bankrupt. DIBELLA IS A PROMOTER. So go PROMOTE his own fighter and get Martinez a damn PPV fight. And make it successful. You can't just use a popular name and hope the PPV is going to be successful. Golden Boy Promotions have been doing that and it keeps failing for them outside of Oscar and floyd.

People forget that MAYWEATHER and OSCAR DE LA HOYA WERE ALL PROMOTED BY TOP RANK PROMOTIONS! Erik Morales started his PPV fights with Top Rank too.

DIBELLA LEARN HOW TO PROMOTE! Even Don King at 80 can still go out, make elaborate speeches, and promote his fighters by having press conferences, story-telling to the media, and introducing the fighters to the people. IT IS SPORTS MARKETING 101!

Damn, ignorant people thinking that just because you are number one in something it automatically means you should get a lot of money. Hey, it takes a village to support an athlete or any A-LISTER. An accountant, a lawyer, a publicist, a public relations personnel, a marketing company, stylists, and others define an A-LISTER outside of their profession from sports to acting.

And DIBELLA is a promoter now promote your fighters same with Gary Shaw too. Sick of 3rd rate promoters getting jealous and doing nothing about it. Show your skills.

Jermain Taylor was in some of the sports biggest fights from 2005-2007, you know that right?

And Golden Boy promotes Paulie now so....besides with a fighter like Paulie who has no knockout power, Dibella did a good job of getting him a ton of opportunities.

That's promoting.



He's commentated for some latin stations I think. In 2010, Martinez was involved in the second highest rated HBO event of the year.

Dibella brought up Jermain Taylor, made Martinez into a star, got a ton of big fights for Paulie Malignaggi, got Allan Green into the Super Six, has signed a lot of good looking prospects in the last year, and was the main head at HBO sports before becoming a promoter.

He's done a damn good job and what he said was completely true.

edit: oh and LOL at the people in this thread for criticizing Dibella matching Martinez on HBO with solid ass fighters. If Arum got those HBO dates he'd give us soft ass match ups like Pavlik Lockett and ****.

With a limited fighter like Taylor, Dibella shoved Taylor down HBO's throats. Jim Lampley would suck Taylor off almost as bad as he would Barrera. Taylor, who isnt an Al Haymon fighter, got a ton of HBO dates and PPVs.

Another Dibella fighter, Berto received similar treatment, but you can chalk that one up to Al Haymon.



Pretty damn rich since Taylor fought in multiple PPVs. Fun fact, before the Cotto Margarito fight Taylor probably did the same PPV numbers as Miguel Cotto. The average PPV numbers in Taylor/Cotto's era were around 300k. Each averaged those.




And Dibella had built him up to make him a legit contender. The only reason he is being fed to prospects is because he has a name, a name that was helped shaped by Dibella.

And it's unfair to boxing that Arum doesn't share his stable ever. The reason why Taylor was almost a star was because he got the opportunities. Golden Boy shared their fighters with Dibella to make the best possible fights.

The reason Taylor wasn't a star was because he looked like **** against those guys. Could you imagine how big he would have been if he had impressively beat Hopkins and Wright?

Pavlik was almost near star status because he impressively knocked out Taylor and Miranda. He had gained a following and that's because Dibella is willing to put his fighters in with other promotional companies' fighters. Yes I am aware Pavlik was the mandatory, but Taylor could have tossed that belt and said Pavlik wasn't a draw.

If there was one thing you couldn't criticize Jermain Taylor for was that he took on competition, even the 154 pounders that moved up to fight him.

You can add up all the PPV #'s from every PPV fight Dibella has ever promoted and they wouldn't come close to touching Just delahoya's numbers alone.

and those are just A FEW of the guys arum made into stars.

Martinez doesn't deserve a PPV shot. You don't deserve ppv you generate them! and based on the 2,500 people martinez had at his last fight he is no where near a ppv main event attraction.

Dibella pretty much wants to piggy back off of Arum and his fighter's success. he want's to cash in on ticket sales and PPV sales that his ***en fighter had nothing to do with. It's comedy at it's best.
