  • as much as i hate arum i have to admit top rank has been the only company able to stage best fights ,and promote their fighters. otherwise best guys woulldn't be interested injoining them (ie bradley). but even arum is apparently too weak to stage a superfight, thats why we see billionares pinging the scene.
of course i agree with dibella but you cnt do much about it. its really a scene dominated by 2 companies staging mostly inhouse fights ans a few smaller promoters scrapping breadcrumbs from the table.

Dibella is one of the few promoters who truly cares about the sport.
Plus Berto and Chavez arent even close. Berto was signed to fight Mosely - when Mosely was #1 in the division, b/f the losses to Pac and May. Dibella tried hard to make a fight wit Cotto, but we know Arum wouldnt let that happen. Lastly, who has chavez fought who is even close to Victor Ortiz or Collazo for that matter.
Dibella does always try 2 make the best fights - look at Martinez opp; look at Taylor's opp - after beating Bhop, his 1st 2 defenses were against bhop and winky; then he tried to fight winky again, but wink ridiculously turned down 5 mil. What dibella did for malignaggi, gettin him millions, also unbelievable job, and thats after malignaggi took the toughest possible fight comin up as an undefeated prospect, fightin Cotto in spring '06

      • Arum has the money to put on independent shows, and build up his fighters that way. DiBella doesn't have that luxury, he works off much smaller margins. Top Rank is a full fledged elite promotional outfit. DiBella promotions is on the lower end of promotional companies, operating on a much smaller budget Arum can tell HBO to go **** themselves. DiBella can't, yes it's business related but he (DiBella) is right.

they want the most money for the least amount of effort...
do you think its the promotors fault that a boxer refuses to fight & stinks out the event to get a mediocre decision???? just to secure his next payday????
do you blame top rank (or shane mosley's promo company) for shanes unwillingness to engage pac?

IMO, the pay structure needs to be reworked... the UFC is succeeding because they keep their fighters HUNGRY... a UFC fighter's sign on wage is VERY low compared to boxing... but UFC fighters get bonuses (KO of the night, Victory Bonus, Fight of the night, etc.).. also UFC fighters rely on sponsorship money. also, dana white will PUBLICLY chastise a fighter's poor performance... basically, POOR PERFORMANCES = CONTRACT TERMINATED

boxers got spoiled by being overpaid UP FRONT... all a boxer has to do is show up & win (by any means necessary...). so we have boxers who are scared to jeopardize their payday... also, the headliners get paid waaaaaaay more than the undercards... the focus is the main event, instead of a solid event overall. its rare to see an event with MULTIPLE big names. our "elite" boxers become spoiled, bratty, primadonnas....

boxing needs to be reworked... PERIOD.
Great post. Man u guys aint leaving me **** to say

            ufc is not a sport.

its like one big promotional company that only does in house fights.

            • Dibellas only shows in ny are at bb kings. To put it in perspective you could fit a kindegsrden class in there if your lucky. The only people there are either in the boxing business, or are friends of fighters.

This guy spends no money promoting his fighters or even his own events. Don't ever defend this guy, he's the worst promoter of them all.

He's the reason boxing is falling off in this country, cheap lazy promoters.

What a coincidence the 3 fighters dieblla wants for Martinez all sell more tickets and are all top rank fighters. Arum is in the right. It's not arums job to get Martinez good fights that bring a crowd.

              • You guys don't realize, arum loses money on a lot of those ppvs. He does it to keep fighters busy, and to get them seen by the public. No other company does that.

Look how long arum built Chavez for. You realize the time and money that has gone into that?

                • Arum, does lose money on some of his independent shows, but ends up recouping those losses when he promotes larger shows. His backers have much deeper pockets and can afford to take a loss once a while, where a guy like DiBella has less margin for error, because he operates on much smaller margins.

                  • I don't really give a **** how much Arum makes because he's making it at the expense of the sport itself. Like I said before, never..NEVER...in my life have I seen the sport's top star milk the public over and over for so long as Team Pacquiao is doing now. It is almost unreal. And sickening. Great points by Arum. Cong**** on figuring out how to make more cash Arum. By making the fans open wide while you sit on their face.
