    Referee Steve Smoger has fallen under fire over his delayed reaction to stop the fight between Roy Jones Jr. and Denis Lebedev On Saturday night at the Dynamo Arena in Moscow, Russia, Lebedev baldy hurt Jones with a combination in the final minute of the tenth and final round. Jones was seemingly out on his feet and slumped forward with hands down to his waist, but Smoger allowed the action to continue, and then Lebedev landed a crushing hook which sent Jones crashing to the canvas on his face and unconscious.

      Smoger is a fan friendly ref, but he F'ed up here. No one who seen that fight thought Roy was playing possum.

          Smoger is one of the best in the business; I would want him at the Froch-Johnson, Rios-Antillion and Marquez-Pacquiao fights.

              Understandable. I love a ref who lets the fighters FIGHT and isn't too timid when it comes to stopping a fight. RJJ was playing 'possum' a couple of times so imo he wasn't really to blame, im more upset at roys decision to keep on fighting and subject himself to this.

              I bet even Roy doesn't blame the ref.

                  there was nothing wrong with the stoppage, people are just oversensitive because it was Roy Jones.

                      Jones has no business in with a guy like Lebedev, so the fault lies with him for doing this in the first place.

                          I tend to agree. Smoger could have called it sooner, but it was a split-second thing.

                              I'd love to know why he didn't grab RJJ like he's supposed to. He just let Roy fall face first onto the canvas...

                              The stoppage I don't have a problem with, but I think he caused unnecessary damage to Roy by letting him fall after stopping the fight.

                                  He did fine. He's the best ref in the bis right now.

                                      Being 30 feet away vs. 1 foot away from the fight makes a difference.
