A victory for Karma as much as Groves. DeGale came across as a school yard bully and showed no class whatsoever. Really didn't think Groves had it in him to box this way, but fair play to him. It was way too close to call really, but I'm happy that Groves got the nod.

Third Adam Booth proved to be the master technician, George's sparring with Dirrell IMO paid off hugely you could see a massive improvement in terms of head and foot movement. Degale was following Groves when persuing not cutting the ring space and looked confused for much of the fight and frustrated when his pot-shots weren't hitting. I think the fight could've been totally different if James used his classy combinations in the fight rather than pot-shotting.
All in all it was the best fight of the night and both fighters definitely show potential to evolve and develop from the fight.
You've nailed it with that one.

I understand that it was a close fight, but did anyone have Groves actually winning? Even though the stats favor Groves, I personally had Degale up by a few rounds.

Make no mistake, I'm loving this though. After a deep depression from Roy Jones' decimation, nothing made me happier than Groves shutting Degales mouth. Though he will bounce back, I no longer believe he'll be an elite fighter. He was thoroughly exposed by a limited Groves.

              A few rounds? Really?

I take it you must have given DeGale a lot more credit for aggression than I did (or ineffective aggression as I would define it). I feel that you can give it to either fighter by a round at most, or score it a draw of course.

I've raved about DeGale's progress for the past year - but the qualification has always been - can he do it tough? Can he wade into the trenches?

Personally, I had DeGale up by a round. I thought he came on strong from the middle rounds and Groves' workrate dropped. That said, Groves executed his gameplan perfectly whilst DeGale's went up in smoke. Groves just wanted it more.

Frank Warren was correct in his analysis. The fight was there for DeGale to win. He always looked the heaver puncher whilst Groves found it difficult to hurt him. But DeGale simply didn't throw often enough. I think it was in the tenth round when there might have been only five punches thrown in the entire round.

DeGale will learn from this. Sheer embarrassment should be enough to focus his concentration on what is a very serious job. Far more serious than DeGale has been taking it recently.

Yeah I had the same score. I also believe Degale should/could have done more, but that's the way it goes.

I had it dead even heading into the last round and I thought Groves won the round in the last minute by just reverting to typical Groves and scrapping for it.

Think we'll see a rematch down the line.

What do you mean you "had Degale winning in a split"?

It can only be a split decision when more than 1 person / judge scores the fight i.e. 2 judges say fighter A won and 1 Judge says fighter B won.

You can either give fighter A the nod, fighter B the nod, or call a draw, however you alone cannot give a "split decision" - unless you have multiple personality disorder???
