To me he looked ok before. He has some tools like height and reach. He has power and i think he has a great hook to the body and throws good combos. He just didnt take training serious and it would show bc he would always gas out and end up looking like sht at the end of fights. But now he seems to be going the right way.
Can Cotto bring balance back to the Mexican vs. Rican rivalry?

Chavez couldn't even destroy John Duddy.
He couldn't even stop Billy Lyell, who was stopped by the feather fisted Sebastian Sylvester.
Chavez Jr is not going to destroy anybody. Sadly, the guy is gonna get destroyed himself. Cotto is a different fighter from the Duddy, Lyell's and Vanda's of the world, even at this higher weight. Cotto is definitely better than those guys and has a better style than them, more power too.Comment

i doubt Roach would accept this fight if that was true..Chavez ain't the best fighter out there but above 154 cotto will get a rude awaking from JrChavez couldn't even destroy John Duddy.

Roach is taking this fight because it's an all Top Rank fight. He has to take it, Arum is the one who probably wants it.
Besides, who would you want your fighter to fight from MW King Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams, Felix Sturm, or Sebastian Sylvester?
Why not make a 154 guy move up instead of fighting any of those guys that would most likely whoop JC and are not even from Top Rank?
Bob Arum is thinking, if my fighter is gonna lose, I want him to lose to another one of my fighters so that I don't end up having my fighter beaten and plus not benefit from it.
Whoever wins or loses Cotto vs Chavez, Bob Arum wins because the winner goes on to do big things under Top Rank.Comment

I see Chavez waiting a year or 2 b4 he fights Martinez and i can't see cotto beating chavez at all sorryRoach is taking this fight because it's an all Top Rank fight. He has to take it, Arum is the one who probably wants it.

if chavez jr doesn't want to man up and fight martinez like the winner of his next bout is suppose to, then him and arum should tell mosley to move up to MW. he should be a good stepping stone for chavez jr. plus he made the 154 limit against mora, i'm sure he can come in 156/157 against chavez jr. cotto still has enough left to beat chavez jr imo....either way, chavez jr isn't fighting martinez, which is a shame...Comment

That's fine.
IMO, he should have waited a year or two to fight Cotto. Martinez would kill Chavez now, just stay away from the top 5 MW's. I think his fight against Zbik is dangerous enough. Forget the top 5.
Cotto will destroy JC, you will see. It's too bad, I think this fight is a mismatch and too early for JC. I would have liked to see him improve a bit more.Comment
