Just saw Lennox Lewis vs. Oliver McCall 2 the strangest thing in Boxing.

I remember that when it happened, it was bizarre to say the least.
What is worse that and the Akinwande fight were back to back~ -
He took 18 months off from the game after that fight and before the fight was off for 11 months, I recall hearing about him having major personal issues and his lack of activity does kind of speak to that.
What is really strange about it is McCall is one of the toughest dudes in the sport he literally appeared that he could not be hurt by a punch, this fight was the only time he was ever stopped.Comment

It always amazed me that people couldn't figure out what this was.
McCall obviously was ordered to lose the fight. He refused to allow himself to get knocked down. He avoided Lewis' punches but would not throw his own.
A somewhat similar thing happened when Jake LaMotta had to throw his fight with Billy Fox. Only difference there is that came out publicly years later. Interesting that Steward switched sides--where have you seen that happen before?
The whole thing was very rotten, and any "breakdown" in the ring was similar to what you saw DeNiro portraying LaMotta crying after having to lose to Fox.
This was all so obvious to those who can see.Last edited by physiker; 05-16-2011, 03:08 PM.Comment

If I'm not mistaken Steward trained Mccall when he beat Lewis, left him to train Lewis, including the Mccall rematch.
Mccall felt betrayed and it mentally broke himLast edited by J Dubb II 330; 05-16-2011, 03:14 PM.Comment
