Comments Thread For: Cotto vs Chavez Could Have a Catch-Weight Involved

Miguel Cotto, the WBA champion at junior middleweight, is very interested in possibly moving up in weight to challenge for a fourth title in October - provided Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. defeats Sebastian Zbik for the WBC middleweight crown on June 4 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Sources indicate the battle could involve a catch-weight of 155-pounds. The weight is interesting, when considering that Chavez has struggled in the past to make 160-pounds, but the Mexican boxer's trainer, Freddie Roach, believes his boxer is still capable of making the junior middleweight limit.

155...Im not in favor of. IMO, That is too much for Chavez jr to drop. I thing 157 or 158 is perfect for this fight if they are going to be talking about catchweights.

It's about negotiating. Cotto's team say 155, now Chavez' team will make a counter-offer of maybe 158 and at the end of the day it'll probably be at either 156-157. I don't mind Cotto requesting a catch-weight since he's only 5'8'' and too small for middleweight and Chavez is 6ft. Also Roach made Cotto do it for the Pac fight, he can return the favor.

I don't like it. In a way it's cool because Manny took Cotto's title in a catchweight so now its an eye for an eye but I expect better from Miguel. This gives mexican fans every reason to b!tch now
