I just finished reading the article. Basically Schaefer is assuming HBO would put up the money, when there is no Guarantee they would.

Regarding the finances, Schaefer said he was confident Golden Boy could secure a $5-million payday for Marquez, saying, "I'm sure HBO would be on board," with paying as much in its licensing fee

Doesn't matter how much it would sell aslong as GBP match what's in the contract.

From what I'm hearing, Goldenboy has the right to match the 5 million guarantee and the 144 weight stipulation.

The article says that HBO would put the 5 million up in licensing fees, And Ortiz will come in at 144.

I'm sure it would be PPV

Of course it does if he is getting a percentage on top of his guarantee. A Marquez v Ortiz PPV isnt going to sell anywhere near as well as a third fight with Manny.

With bradley I just don't know. with bradley's style it could turn out to be a boring match, plus the headbutts, i dunno.
Exactly, I also feel bad for JMM... he has been chasing Pac for the trilogy almost 4 years now... GBP gonna screw him to get to Arum. JMM deserved this fight.... he fought everyone at GBP (diaz, casamayor, katsidis, juarez, etc.) But they couldn't give him the fight he wants....

Actually the article doesnt say HBO would put up the money, Schaefer said "I'm sure HBO would be on board," with paying as much in its licensing fee.

BTW wouldn't they have to match all the incentives in the contract?

It doesn't, if the Pacquiao contract says he gets x percentage of PPV money, GBP can put that in the contract and it's a match and he must accept the GBP one. What it would sell doesn't matter.

He doesn't get to choose if GBP matches the contract, how hard is it to understand?
