Good post, and overall thread, Larry. And although I disagree about Cotto being a better victory than MAB 1, it is still a brilliant and very underrated performance.

Also, Pac's boxing IQ is highly underrated too. Roach said it himself, that he and Pac now devise gameplans and moves together, and Pac knows as much as him. And you can see it. He was pretty crude and naive years ago whereas now, he can adjust, he's not as one-dimensional, he fights much, much smarter. It's all there.

I mean, no doubt Manny is matched very well, but the guy is putting on the kind of boxing clinics these days that Floyd does when he bothers to fight.

      thoughts??
agreed, he forced Cotto into the type of fire fight that best suited him (Manny)... In the second round you could literally see the fight swaying in Manny's favor as he began to land heavier shots on Cotto more frequently (than the 1st).

        Um not really.

Cotto was doing fine until Manny landed a flush bomb. He wasnt the same since. He folded.

All Manny did was hit him. I woudlnt call that adjusting.

The reality is Manny is just physically superior to Cotto, that's why he was able to catch him. He really just turned it on, and once he did, Cotto started just running. The first knockdown came when Cotto thought "okay, well outboxing him in the first round was easy, now I'll empose my superior size against him and knock him out" than he got clipped. The second knockdown came, when Cotto tried it again after briefly outboxing him, and got clipped even harder. After that, Cotto just started running, which lead to him getting beat up on the back foot.

Pac's best win is over Barrera. But his best performance was over Cotto. He looked supernatural in that fight. And yeah, he might not be a super smart fighter, but he's got a brilliant trainer and it's the next best thing. And he's naturally very gifted at making people miss, it just took him a while to learn how to technically do it.

Yeh, because he looked like a more complete fighter.
He has improved and people that don't see that are blind.

Pac is damn good boxer man...I have seen him improve tremendously over the years. I find it hard not to get excited about any of his fights, he IS boxing's superstar no doubt about it.

I can't see how fighting Cotto who is an arguable HOF'er is tougher than fighting Barrera who is a surefire ATG.

But Manny had those skills way before he fought Cotto, watch his fights its as clear as day.

Yeh agreed he had the skills way before it just wasn't as developed and complete as it is now.

You could see the potential young pac had lucky for him he found the right trainer to use that potential to the fullest.
