    If Calzaghe had been American

I bet everyone would go crazy over/about him. Thats a fact, a cold, hard fact. But since he's British/European, he gets very little respect, like Lewis before him. But in contrast to Lewis, Joe really is worthy of being called a legend. Look at Pavlik, 2 wins over Taylor and he was already the NEW BIG THING in America. Just to remind you once again, here's a list of notable boxers Joe beat, listed more or less cronologically:

    Chris Eubank
    Robin Reid
    Richie Woodhall
    Charles Brewer
    Omar Sheika
    Byron Mitchell
    Jeff Lacy
    Sakio Bika
    Mikkel Kessler
    Bernard Hopkins
    Roy Jones

When you mention fighters like that on anyone's list, that's when you know there resume sucks.

That would be like mentioning Manfredy, Jukko, N'Dou, Bruseles for Mayweather. Or like Street Bully mentioning Ornelas, Eastman, Allen, Hakkar for Hopkins, or like Reed mentioning Hanshaw, Ajamu, Telesco, Thornton, Harmon for Jones.

It's just not right, and you can't deceive anyone on a boxing forum with that list, not even Pacfans, I hope.

If Calzaghe had been American, no doubt he would've had a lot of different matches in his youth. I can see him losing some close battles to James Toney, and prime RJJ or Hopkins for example. But he may have beat them in rematches. I agree that Calzaghe would be more popular if American, but mainly because he would've been in bigger fights earlier in his career, and whether win/lose/draw he would've been respected and remembered for challenging the best fighters when they were considered unbeatable.

Because he's BRITISH! Had he been American, nobody would even give a damn about Hopkins!
