These are exactly the type of low risk name opponents you feed a fighter who has questions. He is young and has room to improve but from what i have seen so far he is very overhyped and will be upset when he fights a big puncher around his size.

if he was as talentless he'd still be in mexico and nobody would know who he was. he's at least solid fighter. having an aesthetic style and charisma certainly doesnt hurt anybody, but it's not all he's got going for him
the first garden variety puncher he faces isnt just going to cause him to throw his gloves up and walk out of the ring

I can agree with most of this. Im not trying to say he or Juanma are bums i just think both will never live up to the hype and can be exposed by people that they are "supposed" to beat.

I think Canelo has better boxing skills than Lopez.

Let's not forget he was only a teenager last year.

You are comparing a guy who is closer to 30 than 20, to a kid who is 20 years old, not even legally a man yet, and has showed he has poise beyond his years.

Ryan Rhodes is a legit top 5 154 pounder[#4 in The Ring], if Canelo can beat him, then it's time to take Canelo more seriously. He still has some questions to answer, then again you are asking too much from a kid. At 20 years old, other boxers are fighting guys with losing records, or losing streaks. Jose Cotto, Baldomir, NDou, Matt Hatton, especially Ryan Rhodes are guys you don't feed a 20 year old. Canelo can easily be padding his record up fighting soft touches for as long as the next 5 years if he or his promoter wants to. Choosing to fight the guys he's fighting at this age, already says a lot about the competition he will be fighting in the coming years.

Conclusion, they are not comparable. Canelo has showed more boxing ability and defense than Lopez has, and at a younger age too.

i agree with you...if he dominates and ko's rhodes he definitely needs to be taken serious.i just wonder who will fight him when he does
