The Tito fight was just too soon.

Maybe not for Tito and everyone else, but certainly for Vargas.

In with a prime wrecking-ball like Tito before your 23rd birthday? I'm sorry, but that's too soon for almost anyone.

when he fought Trinidad, Vargas had only 20 fights as a pro. a bit rushed if you ask me.

If Liston beat Ali people would say the same things you're saying about Vargas. This is what annoys me about boxing, I can't quite explain it but people have this desire to see the unexpected, at the same time they will complain about potential match ups with ''predictable results'', or come up with numerous excuses when the expected happens.

Vargas ran into a fighter better than him. To say he was pushed to early is inaccurate. He could have stayed around the block beating up fodder for a while but eventually he would have to enter career shortening wars.

            Vargas had amateur experience
he held a title and had some good wins
it wasn't too soon for him, he was in that fight
he won rounds, did damage, scored a KD, and hurt Tito's eye
he was younger, but he wasn't a green fighter

Lets say he had say 4 more fights before the Tito fight... wouldnt that make him more experienced and better than he was at 22 or whatever age was in that fight.

              Doesnt experience make you better?

Tito didn't beat him because he was better
he beat him because he's a brutal puncher
even in his best efforts Vargas was not great defensively
it wouldn't have mattered if he had more fights
"too soon" implies a gap in class, there wasn't one
Tito was just a lethal KO hitter
