This thread is hilarious! Times sure have changed since then though.

      Pacquiao

      1. Barrera
      2. Marquez
      3. Cotto
      4. Morales
      5. Hatton

Sugar Ray blows away Pac's TOP 5 because Hagler and company are regarded higher than Barrera and company simply because they are fighting in a higher weight and more attention are given to them. but pound for pound its an even matchup

      122 Morales vs 135 Duran
      126 Barrera vs 154 Hearns
      130 Marquez vs 160 Hagler
      147 Cotto vs 147 Benitez
      140 Hatton vs 154 Kalule

Now where Sugar Ray's answer to

      Chatchai Sasakul
      Lehlo Ledwabba
      Oscar Larios
      Oscar Dela Hoya
      Antonio Margarito
      Joshua Clottey

find it in his 40 fights.

and Pac is not even finished yet. Many are looking down on Mosley the same Mosley that easily handled Collazo. yeah he doesnt look impressive in his last two. but which welter will you favor againts him?
Pound for pound, Duran, Hagler, Hearns and Benitez are all above Barrera, Marquez, Morales and Cotto. I'm not even going to dignify the Hatton mention with a proper response.

Now, Shane Mosley was not remotely the same fighter that handled Collazo. He fought Collazo four and a half years earlier. 36, showing his age, but still good and hadn't lost in three years since fighting Wright when he fought Collazo. He was 40 years old when he fought Pac. He hadn't won a fight in over two years when he fought Pac, and had been brutally beaten by Mayweather and looked utterly, disgracefully shot to **** against Mora going into the fight.

Leonard's answer to those guys? His answer to Lolo Ledwaba? Are you kidding? To Larios?

It can be difficult to understand the different eras if you didn't know boxing back then, I get that, but ill quickly explain. A top contender in his era is exactly the same same as an ABC titlist of today's era. The Ledwabas, Larios', clotteys, Etc are no different whatsoever to beating Randy Shields, Dave Green, ranzany etc. It is no different. An abc titlist is not the champion. They are very often rated anywhere from 2nd to 6th or so. They are just contenders in reality. They are not champions in the proper sense because they are not the best and have never beaten the best.

The guys you mentioned, I'm not going to dignify Oscar and Marg with any response again, were never rated, except Sasakul, as number 1. They were 3rd, 4th, 5th etc. Like many of the guys Leonard fought. If you were around following boxing then, you'd remember the names he fought very well because they were the top guys to beat in the division to get you into that title fight spot. It was just like Pac beating Ledwaba etc. Ledwaba never beat anyone of note and would not have been a champ in Leonard's era. Just another contender. That's the difference. Leonard fought plenty of Ledwabas, they just didn't have another title, the IBF in this case, to palm off to them.

BTW, Pac didn't fight Morales at his best weight of 122. It was the legless, drained 130 version who lost 5 out of 6 fights over three years during the period he fought Pac. That is the definition of shot. A top fighter going from losing one fight in 40 pro fights over 11 years to losing 5 of his next 6 fights over three years. Don't twist it.

            • Consider this, Leonard's victory over Benitez is arguably better than any win in Pacquiao's career, and that's not even one of Leonard's top 3 wins.

It's no surprise, the names in bold highlights a list compiled of some of the least knowledgeable trolls on this board.

That's true, I can see a case being made for Barrera but I'd still pick Leonard's victory over an undefeated, prime Benitez. I don't think listing Marquez holds much weight, because Manny arguably never beat him, or Morales, who was past his best in the second bout.

                  • There are more good names in Manny's resume but overall Ray's resume has more greatness. Pac has the quantity, Ray has the quality.

                    I voted for Sugar.

This is a reasonable post. Manny has had better longevity.
